The newspaper was the first form of mass media. The newspaper allowed the reporters to get the news out to the public. Over the years the quality of paper used to create the newspaper has decreased. Radio was the next form of communication. With radio’s ability to send the news and entertainment programs farther across the land. Radio allowed for the listening audience to hear the programing from inside their homes. The telephone was the next form of communication. The telephone was invented in the 1870’s by two inventors Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray. Mr. Bell was able to patient his invention first. The telephone allowed speech to be transmitted electrically. Around 1900 is when the telephone became more available to the masses. The television was invented in 1925 by a Scottish inventor named John Logie Baird. Unlike radio, the television allowed the audience to see and hear the programming in black and white. Television allowed the programmers to get breaking news stories out to the public within seconds, instead of hours. After television came the computer. Computers allowed people to store data and even work on complex mathematical equations. Computers had a slow start in getting started. Only the wealthy could afford the computer. Today the computers are smaller, faster and can locate information on the internet in the matter of seconds. With the advancement of computers and the supply and demand is not nearly what it was just a few years ago, computers have become more affordable to the public.
