Nina 1 Dementia describes a group of symptoms that are caused by changes in brain function. Dementia symptoms may include asking the same questions repeatedly; becoming lost in familiar places; being unable to follow directions; getting disoriented about time, people, and places; and neglecting personal safety, hygiene, and nutrition. People with dementia lose their abilities at different rates. They are several neurologic disease for which dementia is the major symptom. They are called neurodegenerative disorder simply because they degenerate the nervous system .Alzheimer disease is by far the most common neurodegenerative disorder.The cause of AD are still very unclear. Beta amyloid is similar to cholesterol and is essential for the brain but an excessive amount inhibits proper brain function. In result recent research suggest that the cerebral cortex, which process visual and spatial information is damage in Alzheimer’s disease patients brains. In addition, areas of the brain, important for memory such as the basal forebrain and hippocampus are affected .As well as decrease level of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Donepezil (Aricept) and Tacrine (cognex) are both acetylcholine esterase inhibitor therefore increasing acetylcholine levels by blocking enzyme cholinesterase. None of the drugs offers a cure for Alzheimer’s’. Nina 5 Alzheimer’s disease patients usually live 6-8 years fallowing diagnosis .As the disease progress the patient lose his ability to swallow and breathe and most normal cause of death in patient with dementia is asphyxiation.
