Method Participants A total of 179 first year psychology undergraduates at the University of Essex participated as part of their course project for PS114 – Research Methods in Psychology. Apparatus Each participant viewed the stimuli and recorded their answers on either an iMac or eMac. Materials Lists of stimuli totalling 96 words were used from 8 lists from Roediger and McDermott’s (1995) original study on ‘creating false memories’ in the first phase of this experiment. 48 additional words were taken from a further 8 lists in the original, to be presented in the second phase of the study. These lists each had a theme based around a target word which was the critical lure.
Homework: Each week students will be expected to read the essays to be covered. In addition, a response paper of approximately 250 words based on your reaction to one of the essays in the chapter must be submitted.
