Effects of Bad Parenting Parents have a very difficult and complex job. They are not only supposed to teach their children discipline, responsibilities, manors, and morals. But they are also supposed to love, support and encourage their kids. These very simple thing are vital to a child’s mental and emotional development. Even though no parent is perfect, when these aspects aren’t taught or are taught incorrectly it can greatly affect the child in many negative ways. The most common issue in bad parenting is inconsistency. Inconsistency when raising kids is not only confusing to the child but it can lead to undesired behavior later on down the road. This would include originally saying no to the child but eventually giving in to their wishes after the child throws a fit or disciplining the child for doing something wrong and allowing them to do the same exact act later with no discipline at all. Even though the child might be young, they quickly learn that they can get what they want by throwing a tantrum or that they can do things they’re not supposed to and get away with it. Eventually this will lead for the child to become rebellious and defiant to authority figures. Unfortunately, this not only affects their childhood behavior it often carriers over into their teenage years and even adulthood. It may start with acting out in school or even breaking the law because they feel they can get away with whatever they want. At this point it not only affects their life but it affects society as well. Everyone lives busy lives so as a parent it is not uncommon to make a promise to your child that can’t be kept when the time arises. This is acceptable from time to time because unfortunately sometimes stuff comes up. The child will understand the first few times even though they may be disappointed inside.
