What Does the Library Have to Offer? Thurmond R. Roach Computer Literacy/ INF 103 Professor Lawanda Morant 8/6/2015 What Does the Library Have to Offer? Today’s topic of discussion is what the Ashford University Library has to offer. There is a numerous amount of information that is available to the public as well as students. Because there is only certain amount of this information actually usable when it comes the academic research, it is very imperative that we gather information from specific places or resources.
All you need to do is fill out a request form and will receive the link to your source by searching through whatever is in the OSU collection. In the Article Express, there is another request form to search for materials that are not in the OSU collection. That is another great resource to use, since instead of being limited to what is available in OSU, you will have access to a worldwide database to find your sources. Visiting an OSU regional campus library would be a great resource to use since you will have access to the one that is most efficient for you and they will have librarians to assist you in whatever information you are looking for. Also, some regional libraries will have the specific information you are looking for compared to the other ones.

The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become. Perfect practice, makes perfect. Most people would probably have trouble with trying to remember how they learned to read. I would have to say that I am a person who loves to read and I think that is it really an amazing thing. Also, I am someone who is involved in education and research and I think that it is amazing how learning to read is said to be a talent that it potentially impossible.
Some of the common use of World Wide Web is to gain knowledge in research. When students are doing their home works, instead of going to the library and spending a little more time, they just need to go in front of the computer and search for the topic that they are researching on. Using the internet as a learning resource is somehow more efficient than books when it comes to time. But when it comes to reliability, books are still the best options for us to research since anybody can write, edit, and publish an article on the Web. Internet helped us to communicate with the ones we loved especially those who are far from us.

College provides us with the knowledge and credibility that employers seek in this demanding world today. However a huge debate has to be brought to attention if going to college and receiving a bachelor’s degree should be a requirement to even get your foot in the door or be considered for a job. An interesting point of view on the bachelor’s degree being a job requirement is in the essay “Should The Obama Generation Drop Out?” by Charles Murray. Murray is a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, has written on social issues and published a book in 2008 regarding real education. I think Murray’s point of views will change a lot of people and the way they see education as a primary resource to qualify to get a good job.
This assignment was beneficial in allowing me to see how I had no idea how to research a library database. According to Capella University Writing & Library Resources (2009),” learning how to find credible information and apply it to a problem is a critical skill in nearly all areas of life…”. For that reason, I invested many hours going through all the tutorials to learn how to focus topics, search databases, use effective keywords, apply Boolean commands and other strategies needed to build my research skills. My final assessment score was 16/16; however, the perfect score was no reflection of my ability to apply the concepts and strategies learned to research three articles on a topic related to my specialization, Child and Adolescent

Kirsten Laman ENGL 1301-61507 Professor Jackson 30 October 2014 Cognitive Effects of the Internet The book The Shallows by Nicholas Carr states that the introduction of the internet into society has had a profound effect on our culture. In other words, the internet has affected the way people think, read, and remember. The rapid access to tons of information has also affected people’s behavior making them less patient and less productive. According to Carr, “The Net commands our attention with far greater insistency than our television, or radio or morning newspaper ever did” (117). In today’s world, the internet has become essential to work, school and entertainment.
