Effective communication skills are key to success in life, work and relationships. Communication is the process by which we exchange information through speaking or writing between individuals or groups of people. It is a process where we try as clearly and accurately as possible to convey our thoughts or suggestions and intentions. Communication is successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information. In today’s era of highly developed informational and technological environment, effective communication skills has become the utmost important skill to acquire. In the near future, as I become a fresh graduate chemical engineer. I have to attend interviews. If I have incompetent performance, I will not only risk making a bad first impression but also losing important valuable new contracts or other opportunities from potential clients. While working as an engineer, I have to work in teams. I need to do lots of presentations to both team members and superiors. Therefore, while gathering requirements for projects, I need to be an adequate communicator so that the information can be conveyed in an efficient manner. Without effective communication, informations delivered to team member can turn into error or frustration if the the information is misinterpreted. Furthermore, communication skills does not only involve speaking but it also require effective written skills in order to convey the message through scripts, memo, e-mail, text messages, journal and etc. While applying for a job, a good writing skill is required to compose an outstanding resume or job application which stands out from the others. With an excellent resume, my application would have a higher chance of acceptance.
