Education System in the Philippines Education in the Philippines today is not as competitive and excellent as it was before. Students from nearby countries used to study here. Affordability of education is one of the issues that it faces today. The budget allocation to education is lowest among ASEAN countries which most people believed as the factor that affected its quality. Filipinos are highly demanded due to professional skills, proficiency in English and ability to learn other foreign languages and adapt new cultures and traditions. English is the primary language used when teaching specially in Math and Science. Most of the words that are being used in these subjects have no Filipino counterpart. Schools do not pay a great deal on certain subjects. Music, Arts and Physical Education are the subjects that can not be clearly discussed in the regular school. That is why students attend special Music & Art Classes outside the school or learn Taekwondo. Edukasyong Pagpapahala, which is a subject that teaches good manners and right conduct to students, is also removed from the curriculum since it is replaced by subjects that are more related to science and mathematics. Some of the subjects that they add to the curriculum are Basic Statistics and Research. There was this time that the students are pressured about their proficiency in English that they forgot Filipino language. In the year 2007, where the high school students are require to the NAT exam, most of the students had failing scores in Filipino subject. In higher education, 1/3 of its institutions are non-profit and the rest are initiated for monetary gain. Most of these institutions are branded as ‘diploma mills’. Mismatch between training and actual job has become a huge problem. They produce unqualified, unemployed and underemployed graduates. The choice of the students on their Tertiary course
