EDUCATION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM Vastly diverse and populated with a fascinating blend of international cultures from around the globe, the United Kingdom, situated in Western Europe, is recognized as the best quality of Education background. With a history of nearly 800 years, the method of education there has affected education systems worldwide. The core method is focus on developing the ability to work independently and self- creation for each student. The United Kingdom is home to some of the world’s top universities, which attract thousands of students, faculty and researchers every year, including many from the United States. Employers in the US and around the world recognize the values of a UK degree. According to QS World University Rankings in 2013, four out ten best universities in the world belong to The United Kingdom, which are University of Cambridge, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and University of Oxford. Besides, there are several of famous names remarkably such as Durham, Warwick, St Andrews, Bath, and York. Students who would like to pursue a post-secondary education in England have several options from which to choose, including universities, university colleges, sixth form colleges, and further education colleges. Each type of school offers unique and valuable opportunities for students, no matter what educational or vocational goal a student may have. Universities offer two types of first degrees: the Bachelor’s degree, typically lasting three years, and more recently, a Master’s degree, which requires four years of study and allows students to bypass the Bachelor’s degree option. Post-graduate degrees, including the Master’s degree, which typically takes one year, and the Doctorate degree, typically lasting three years, are also offered. A variation on the university is the university college.
