Gatto is saying that schooling is made for kids to adapt to; it has adaptive qualities, therefore there is a chance for everyone to succeed if they really want to, but it takes away from any individual thinking. Conforming is another evil of school because it makes us forced to learn things we really have no interest in and as Gatto states “its intention is to make children as alike as possible”(153). A lot of students use this excuse while they are in high school “when am I ever going to use this again in life” ill be honest I have said it before but I don't necessarily agree with these students because you need to build a base education before you figure out what you want your schooling to focus on. With positive behaviour around, children find it much easier what is expected of them. Starting from a young age having boundaries with children is crucial so as they grow they will know what behaviour is acceptable and what behaviour isn't. They need consistency so that way staff have to work close with partent/carers to let them know what boundaries we have in our settings and try and get the partents to use our techniques at home so the children dont get confussed. Children need a lot of consistency in their lifes to help them know what is good behaviour. This also helps children take responsibility for their actions and also they are part of the process.

They are mentors to their children that their quest is to lead their child to success. Hopefully if the child receives that type of support and guidance in their life, they will use it in the long run for their own good. The reason why I bring this up is because I believe that this is an important factor to the cause of what is happening to the public school system. Students need to be on the same pace as the teachers to receive positive outcomes for both sides. The public school system should actually study and listen to the students to gain ideas on how they can reverse the direction of where the public school system is heading.
Those parents have to stay vigorously involved in schooling their kids. Surely the obligation to ensure our nation’s future must be shared also by those who don’t have children in the public schools. Those people who should take an interest in the students that will eventually be stepping into the workforce. They should be developing work-study groups, internships and job placement banks that they can recruit and develop to be successful. Evidently, the tasks of educating our children nowadays are a lot more difficult than simple examinations and easy solutions.
We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.

I would help the child to see that just because their parents and grandparents are education to a certain extent, doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be for them. I would encourage them to set their own goals and to work toward creating their own identity.
