Charlie isn’t bad at dancing, according to his Ma he wasn’t as good as his father but he’s getting like him every day I remembered when I was in grade 1, maths and I were biggest enemies, I don’t know why but all the numbers just couldn’t get through my head. Due to all of these reasons the students in the play feel as though they are prisoners; Jerome: We treated like convicts Ms Sun: How do you mean? Jerome: First, we wake up to bars on our window Coca: Then our moms and dad. (Sun, 912-913) These kids are constantly told what to do and when to do it. No one believes in them or expects anything great from them. It’s almost as if they are expected to fail.
The students showed this by becoming “listless” during his stories. His tone and words were always picked with sarcastic criticism, too; for example, “I don’t mean to be polite or impolite, either. I guess it’s a sort of way I have, of saying things regardless.” (Cather, 245). I think Paul used this to separate himself from the rest of the dull crowd around him. Paul hated his surroundings, he felt so disgusted by it all that he presented himself in the most obnoxious way; hoping that some day those around him would grow to appreciate his distinct
Most teachers paused at 135 volts and then began to question the purpose of the experiment. Most learners banged on the walls after several high shocks, the subjects wanted to stop after hearing the screams of pain coming from the learner. Most subjects still continued after being told they were not to be held responsible if anything happens to the learner, and same subjects began to laugh nervously and exhibit extreme signs of stress. Milgram also explains “the ordinary person who shocked the victim did so out of a sense of obligation, an impression of his duties as a subject, and not from any peculiarly aggressive tendencies” (White, Billings. During the film students report experiences of being abused, seeing their friends die from gang violence, circumstances of poverty and family eviction, all of which present dire challenges to the students within school. Seeing dismal issues unfold like this in front of your eyes can sometimes be challenging making it increasingly difficult to focus on school, let alone focusing on the grand scheme of life such as acquiring career goals or setting personal goals that can be achieved for self-esteem purposes and other self-development goals. Academically, the characters in the film are challenged because of the fact that when they go home at night they do not have a safe and secure place to study and do homework. There is also no one to help with schoolwork or any type of current technology aid such as a computer or laptop. Instead they face and are challenged by gang membership, hunger, family domestic and financial issues.
I always seemed Adler react different in similar situations, he would always react in a physical way such as hitting his classmates. I guess he is starting to learn to use his words as his teacher tells him every time he would hit a kid in the class. This is showing me how Adler is learning a new way to react differently to similar situations that he had encounter
Each of them found sports, mainly football as an escape. After going over some speed bumps in their attempt to become professional athletes they achieved stardom through great physical ability. After getting to the NFL each of these players became infatuated with attention. Changing hair styles, last names, and demanding more money when already making more than enough for playing a game, are some ways that shows how much these two need the attention. Also, both Johnson and Owens excessively celebrated when a touchdown was scored.
They were told this for so long that majority of the kids that he had grew up with start to accept it. He also, noted that he fought with his classmates because he refused to accept the title of a dumb Indian boy. They would get mad at him when he answer question that the non-Indian teacher would ask the class. Alexie had a different plan for himself than some ridiculous stereotype. He began to read more.
