Ebay case Problem: They don’t have control over the products that the people offer in the web. The reputation is based on the quality of the product sold by the seller. SWOT Strength: They work in the internet, a worldwide service. Weakness: No control over the extensive market. Opportunity: Partnership to attract more customers. Threat: Strong Competition and sellers offering bad quality products. PESTEL Political: No political barriers because is in the internet Economical: Taxes over the sales on eBay. Social: Changes on consumer’s trend. (Dynamic capabilities) Technological: Easy access to internet. Environment: To much movement of packages creates contamination. Legal: Customers wanting to demand because of fraud: Mission/Vision Flexible solutions that foster merchant growth. To provide a global online marketplace where practically anyone can trade practically anything, enabling economic opportunity around the world. Even though they are fostering merchant’s growth, this cannot be fulfilled unless the sellers offer the quality they promised on their ads. Without this, eBay would not be able to work. They are practically dependent on the seller’s honesty. Dynamic Capabilities Because of the changing environment eBay is forced to hire the most prepared people in order to look for future trends that could lead to a constant competitive advantage against their competitors. Being able to understand what customers and sellers need and being able to give offer them this platform that falls within their needs is a constant challenge for eBay. Value Chain and Value network: As they don’t offer a primary product, and they have already established their platform service in the internet they need to focus on the support activities to help to improve the technology development and hire human resource capable to manage the service.
