Effective management of discipline does not just happen; it requires consultation, planning, commitment, and constant review and evaluation. The focus of my study will be on the benefits of the implementation of the Assertive Discipline model in the elementary classroom. The Assertive Discipline model is a structured, systematic approach designed to assist educators in running an organized teacher-in-charge classroom environment. Based on the research I have reviewed, the foundational usage of assertive discipline can be utilized to promote desirable behavior management.. The instrument of the Assertive Discipline Model operates upon the premise that children can be controlled through the usage of body language, and the directions from the teacher with parental support (Canter 1992).

I will create this environment through an engaging curriculum, personable interaction, topic orientated discussions, and group work. Since my license will include an endorsement in Special Education my classroom management will include a focus on flexibility defined as the ability to respond to the moods, emotions and the capabilities of my students on any given day. Meeting the needs of my students, based on their individual need, will be a crucial part of my classroom management structure. I will accomplishment this by promoting self-management and self-efficacy in my students to the best of their abilities. Creating a predictable, consistent, and success-oriented environment will promote self-management in my students by creating, basic, daily routines with limited changes (Savage & Savage, 2010).
Teachers need direction in order to meet academic proficiencies and to keep student’s interest (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010). After exploring several learning theories and strategies, my own teaching practices are most often modeled by several strategies and learning theories. The Constructivism Theory resonates in some of the techniques I am using in the classroom. Reflecting on student activities and the design my lessons ; I find students are most often engaged in learning activities that are student driven and lead to students constructing their own conclusions. Student often work at stations and learn through team building and planned movement.
At the start of each day the teacher provides me with a sheet of what the learning objectives are and what groups we are all to work with a what times for the full school day. From this both the children and myself are clear about what we are learning. 1.2. Summarise the difference between formative and summative assessment. I should provide specific support to the pupils while supporting learning activities. My next main duty would be to provide support for the class teacher, by doing things such as clerical duties, e.g. photocopying and preparing resources.

By doing this, the tutor will enable learners to successfully achieve their goals. A combination of the elements mentioned above ensures complementary areas of students learning are addressed. Through the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT), the classroom is described as being a place that is supportive, motivating, engaging, diverse, and challenging. It is also outlined that assessment should be fair, transparent, and productive. The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) allows for the value of the context to be linked with the content of the classroom. The Reporting and Assessment Advice ensures that outcomes of these environments are communicated regularly to parents providing them with “easily understood information about how their child is progressing and plans for future learning.” Through my teaching practices, I mindful that my teaching strategies and abilities need to combine with those set out in the initiatives and methodologies to provide a safe and engaging learning environment for all students.
