Anne Bradstreet and Modern America Anne Bradstreet was one of North America’s first privileged women to have evolved in the New World with remarkable success. She voiced her deepest emotions about every aspect of unfamiliar life and did so by writing those emotions in a timeless way. A contributing factor to her success was her Father. He ensured that she was educated before leaving for the new world. In addition, he was very involved in her upbring and sharing his passion for writing with her.
The things that I liked doing she would hate and the things that she liked doing I’d hate. Although we were very different from each other we had a surprisingly good relationship compared to many other siblings. She was kind of like my best friend, I trusted her more than anyone I knew, and I knew that I could tell her anything and that she would always be willing to help me if I needed it. As Alli was doing her last year of high School and preparing for her exams she got pressured a lot especially from my parents who had extremely high expectations of us. My parents wanted Alli to study to be a Lawyer or doctor when she finished but that’s not what she wanted to do and secretly she knew that she wouldn’t be able to
I hated the assignments to turn out “compositions”, and went at them like heavy labor.” (Baker, 2nd paragraph, pg. 66) I felt that part of the paragraph just reminded of myself of the same things like in this paragraph. The genre of this essay is a narrative essay because Baker explains his high school and college experiences. When Baker said “I had begun to think of myself as a writer. It was the only thing for which I seemed to have the smallest talent, and silly thought it sounded when I told people I’d like to be a writer, it gave me a way of thinking about myself which satisfied my need to have an
Susan B. Anthony was another great inspiration to the women society. She was an American Civil Rights leader who came up with what is now called the 19th amendment. Susan stated, “There was no difference between the minds of men and women.” She wanted to open doors to not only women but to people who were enslaved. Susan B. Anthony also made employers hire women, showing that women could work just as well as men could. She proved that women deserved the same amount of pay that men were making.
They differed greatly in economic structure, religious beliefs, societal structure, and also population make-up. The two regions were very close, but in the end became two completely different regions with unique identities. The New England area was originally settled by people seeking religious freedom in the new world. They were primarily Puritan Separatists. They decided to come to the new world after the Church of England separated from Catholicism in a decision made by King Henry VIII.
1. How did Wellesley College, its faculty and the community reflect the cultural/societal views of women and gender roles at the time? In the film, Wellesley College, it's faculty, students, and community demonstrate what life was like for young women during this time period. Although the students of this school were incredibly intelligent, they did not expect to do anything with their lives besides get married and start a family. This strongly represents the cultural and societal views of the time because they believed being a housewife was their "sole responsibility".
Reflective Reading Response When I first read Shiloh, I had to go back and read the story again, which was frustrating because I had waited until the morning to read the story a second time. I am glad that I reread it though, because it completely changed my outlook on the story. At first, I looked at it from a shallow-minded perspective. All I looked at was the main ideas and blew off the rest of the material. When I read it for the second time, I found an appreciation for the literature we were reading.
The ways that Anne views the war with her eyes makes it easy to relate to her. In certain entries from her diary, it is looks like I wrote the diary entry and we both just want to live. Although Anne did not survive, her famous diary shows millions of readers just what type of person Anne would have been after the war. Throughout the book, several countries are mentioned. Each teenager wrote about where they grew up.
Finally, women were not allowed to divorce from an abusive or destructive marriage (Stanton). There were two instigators of suffrage that helped other women stand up for themselves and for other women all across America. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony made changes that eventually made way for the 19th Amendment. After the two met, they turned out to be a powerful team. Together they formed the National Women Suffrage Association (or the NWSA) (Colman).
When becoming a nurse it should be something that you have always dreamed of this is a career that you should have passion for since it is working with people all day. When making the decision in becoming a nurse, I looked at all those options and still decided that this was the career for me. The median pay for a registered nurse is $64,690 a year or $31.10 a hour. In theory I think a nurse should be paid more because they do a lot of things and still don’t get paid enough in some states. Once I become a nurse I’m sure that I will make a great one and also be excited to come to the work place daily.
