I don’t think that I would want to go back to eating meat. If anything, I expect to learn new ways to overcome the various obstacles that may get in my way and become a stronger person for it. I see vegetarianism as a character builder as well as a sacrifice, but could also be a burden or viewed as a quirk. “Cardiovascular disease kills 1 million Americans anually and is the leading cause of death in the United States…” say Joel Fuhrman, MD author of Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss. (Vegetarian Times / Why Go Veg) There are many benefits to becoming a vegetarian.
The active verb “flays” suggests a sense of cruelty. In both of John Foulcher’s poems For the Fire and A crow that came for the Chickens, the theme of the brutality and cruelty of nature is implied. In conclusion, in all four of John Foulcher’s Poems, the theme of man’s destructive impulse is repeated. A common idea of survival of the fittest exists both in the world of man and nature. In Martin and the Hand Grenade, and Harry Wood, this brutality is extrapolated in regard to man.
The writer does this because it gives the whole leaflet a more relaxed feel to it and makes it seem not so serious. The leaflet uses direct address and repetition of the word “You’ll”. The writer has done this because it makes the leaflet seem more personal to the reader and might persuade them even more to switch to becoming a vegetarian. Emotive language is also used in the text, when talking about the death of animals, they use the phrase “pain and suffering”, which makes the reader feel more inclined to become a vegetarian. Imperative verbs such as “Improve your health” and “Protect our planet” are used because it feels like an order or that it is something that you have to do.
However, after the war, the work made by the Committee on Food Habits ended, but the nutritional advice was kept by the government. The wealth and knowledge about nutritional practices is what America walked out with, but no sense of cultural change to back it up. Cultural change is what offers the best hope for actually changing how Americans eat. “Junking Junk Food” had a reference to how cigarettes are now being portrayed as disgusting and addicting, versus being called cool and sexy, this same exact principal could be put on unhealthy food. Kessler said that it wouldn’t be an easy task
The FDA and USDA clearly state that organic foods are no healthier for you than processed food (Organic Foods FAQ). Throughout my research I have found many pros and cons, between organic foods Pros of organic food: It can help in the preservation and conservation of the natural environment. By buying food that isn’t produced and harvested using chemicals, organic decrease their usage. Another benefit is, through organic farming it decreases the amount of chemicals in the production cycle, and therefore it helps to support biodiversity. It encourages a wider range for plants and animals, this leads to a healthier eco system (Johnston).
By continuing to eat meat the issues of factory farming can not be fixed. There is a demand in the United States for meat, which allows the large scale factory farming. Converting to vegetarianism has many benefits and can help reduce the problems that are risings out of factory farming. Not eating meat will decrease the demand for meat, which in turn will save animals from a life of abuse. Vegetarianism is one of the healthiest diets, so it will boost your over all health.
Lilly Morrone May 13, 2012 Roser 8 Man’s Demise There is no escaping violence. It has and will always be there; mankind is just naturally violent. William Golding shows just that in his story, Lord of the Flies. Taking place in World War one it is a story that holds many controversial messages; he makes many war references and is always talking about savagery. All of the points he brings up can be connected to one thing; Violence.
At some special cases, such as an accident killing, they are allowed to consume animals in which they didn’t kill deliberately. Buddhism seems to be not the only religion that nourishes the necessity of vegetarianism. Ancient Christians believe that raw vegetables should be the only food that humans consume. Although Christians nowadays are not familiar with vegetarianism, there are still people who believe that vegetarianism should be applied to humans. One example is William Cowherd, who is the founder of Bible Christian Church.
