On past Halloweens, the local kids have broken windows, and worse, so I need someone to stay there the whole night to make sure no harm comes to my building. I will pay $3000 for anybody willing to do this, but I must be completely honest and disclose the fact that previous house sitters have run out of the house in the middle of the night because they were convinced the house was haunted by ghosts. Some of them were so scared that they went completely crazy and had to be committed to a mental institution. If you have the courage to accept this job, please call me. –Dick Shore, 917-555-1221 Finish this story.
Ryan Bodine Instructor Barnes Eng 101/304 03 September 2014 A Night in Alcohol Hell It started as any normal day, until I found out everything about me was going to change. When I walked into Prosciutto’s Pub and Pizzeria that Saturday night I was expecting to deliver pizzas, instead I walked into an agitated group of bar patrons. The bartender had not shown up and the owner, Joel Pyffer, was looking to me to fill his shoes. It was my big chance! My first night as a bartender, I encountered chaos like no other; luckily my ability to keep calm would teach me a lifelong lesson.
These are innocent people who had such a life ahead of them and had it so abruptly taken from their hands. Something needs to be done and it needs to happen soon. Many people have lost loved ones due to drunk driving, I know I almost did, but she was lucky enough to live. Another fact that I found truly astonishing is that the south had more fatalities each year due to drunk drivers then the north. Maybe that is because a lot of southerners like to have a cold beer on the weekends after a long work week, but they forget to leave their stupid butts where they are at instead of trying to drive home even when they know they can’t.
That night we arrived at Benning after 14 long, grueling hours on a greyhound bus. We step off and of course there was nobody around except one Black hat (instructor) he said two things; one here is your room and be ready for week one, Ground Week, on Monday morning. The first week, Ground Week, was intense. I was drenched in sweat from 4AM to 6PM, we did a PT (physical training) test right off the bat 0400 that Monday I smoked it of course. After that we spent the day in processing which is always the boring part I thought, not this time if we weren’t busy we were doing PT.
Or else, Nick would have continued drinking. As he is drinking, Nick comments, “After eight o’clock, the apartment was full of cheerful sun.” Drinking among his new friends, he becomes happy because those around are joyful. Drinking alcohol in Gatsby was a form of rebelling against the prohibition act. The prohibition act was the U.S government’s attempt to ban the sell and use of alcohol. However, the effects of the Prohibition were
The statistics continue to rise, but if we would take time to think about the lives being put in danger, perhaps we wouldn’t allow ourselves to be so heavily distracted. It only takes seconds for something terrible to happen, and every day I discover how dangerous drivers’ habits are-problems we see that exist every day. A dangerous driving habit that has recently increased is the use of cell phones while driving. Imagine a person using a cell phone while driving (one hand on the steering wheel and the other grabbing the phone near his ear), talking about last night’s party or about the baseball season that has just started. During this period of time, the driver’s attention is focused in the conversation.
Another motorist stops to help and tells you, “I was behind your car for a few miles, I saw the whole thing happen. Your vehicle flipped 2 times, landed on its’ top and skidded for several feet.” This scenario actually happened to me in 1996 near Boise, Idaho. What I didn’t know was the reason my friend had fallen asleep at the wheel was because he was drunk also. He’d had several shots over the course of the night and hadn’t bothered to tell me before we started our trip home. He not only put his life in danger but mine as well.
This is illegal, what if I get caught? These entire questions ran through my mind a as I reached for the red plastic cup. I thought again this is illegal but I want to have a good time. So I took the cup, filled it with beer and started drinking. I knew that it was illegal to drink until you turned the age of twenty one.
The people that binge drink the most have more severe problems. These people are more likely, than people who do not drink excessively, to miss class, get behind in their homework or class assignments, involve themselves with sexual activity, not using protection during sexual activity, getting caught by campus security, or maybe even wounded, or seriously injured. “Such heavy alcohol use among American college students has received considerable attention because of high alcohol-related morbidity and mortality is widely considered a public health concern with serious immediate and long-term consequences” (Saylor, 2011). Many college campuses have considered taking serious actions to control the behavior of college students that are binge drinking. Administrators on college campuses have establish a zero tolerance policy for alcohol so that the campus is a dry campus.
Running head: Drunk Driving Drunk Driving 1 Drunk Driving: Has There Been Any Improvement Juanita Kirkwood Business Ethics May 20, 2012 Drunk Driving 2 Abstract Drunk driving has always been an issue. At times, the concern of driving while under the influence has arisen because of a tragic event that has caused public outcry. While it is hard to identify why there seems to be no way to prevent repeated drunk driving offenses one thing is clear. Something needs to happen to stop needless loss of life due to the actions of repeated drunk drivers. Several ways to prevent reoccurrence of drunk driving is to help the legal system to
