0190 Several of today’s drivers have unsafe driving habits. You do not have to travel far to witness these dangerous habits. They are in your neighborhoods and on highways. These drivers are dangerous not only to themselves but also to other drivers as well. Many of today’s drivers have dangerous driving habits such as not following the law, road rage and doing anything thing other than focusing on driving. Following the law is a very important thing to do, especially when driving. For instance, one day I was riding with my cousin down the highway. While driving she was fiddling on her phone, and even with the radio. While doing all of these tasks, she did not realize she was swerving all over the road. Luckily, there were not any other cars on the road. She was too busy playing around with text messages, and the radio that she wasn’t paying attention to the road. If there had been cars on the road at that time we would have no doubt been in a wreck. Even just talking on the phone could be dangerous. My uncle is a trucker driver, and he was on the phone with my aunt one night when he was out on the road. During the time he was talking on the phone he was not aware that he had passed up his exit. So he just kept on driving and he ended up in a corn field. He was not hurt, thank god! Also, seat belts are extremely important to wear when you are driving. Studies show that 63% of people killed in car accidents are not wearing their seat belt. Seat belts are the most effective safety devices in vehicles today, estimated to save 9,500 lives each year. For example, Officer Randall L. Benoit died in a hospital after being in a fatal car accident in January. Benoit was not wearing his seat belt and another car crashed into him head-on. There were a total of four vehicles in this accident. Two people were wearing seat belts and two of them were not. The ones wearing their
