I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food. Every capable adult knows that eating anything in a fast food restaurant is bad for you. They need to stop being lazy and letting their kids eat fast food frequently, especially if their kids are not very active. It is the responsibility of the parents to feed their kids three healthy meals a day and to make sure that they are maintaining a healthy diet. I do not believe that if fast food industries started putting nutrition labels on their food that it would have a significant difference on the amount of food that people eat.
Instead of giving all the kids the same portion of food, they made the portion smaller for the elementary students and the portion bigger for middle school and high school students. It is absolutely heartbreaking that no one was complaining before. When the plates were filled with artery clogging, over processed foods and snacks, no one had a thing to say. This was not affecting those who had a choice in the matter, it was the children who suffered. Michelle Obama has put forth an effort to fight childhood obesity in America. She has noticed an epidemic, especially in children ages 2-5, because this is where it begins, and the fact children are doing less exercising and forced to eat life threatening foods.
This is causing kids to throw out food, that they are not getting enough of to begin with, but because of the flavor the kids would rather not eat at all then to eat food that is very bland. In “The battle against fast food begins in the home” by Daniel Weintraub he is stating that parents are at fault for children’s obesity and their eating habits. Weintraub also says that the food companies shouldn’t be blamed for people gaining weight and becoming unhealthy by eating their food all the time. In this article Weintraub is blaming the parents which in my opinion is correct for him to do that because parents should teach their children what to eat and what not to eat. I don’t understand how people could blame a food company for making them fatter. That is absurd; if people don’t want to gain weight then they shouldn’t eat there or allow their children to eat there if they are going to complain about it.

Greg Crister writes in “Too Much of a Good Thing,” that many baby boomer parents believe that children are able to distinguish when they are full and have the right to make bad decisions about what they eat. “That may be true” according to Crister but he argues that in a world that billions of dollars are spent to attract kids and their families to enjoy a greasy fast food, its not always the best choice to let children decide.
