As well as all this, William had a store of the finest weapons in France. Leadership William was one of the bravest people of his time. When his army was having difficulties during the battle, he bravely led his army back up the hill to make another attack upon the English. Due to William's intelligence, he arranged his army in long rows, archers at the front to try and soften up the English's shield wall, foot-soldiers in the middle, and the cavalry at the back for a big attack. The retreating trick explained in the above paragraph also shows great leadership. Luck Luckily for William, the wind changed direction in his favour on his journey north to England.
The war gives Gatsby an opportunity to see the world and earn money in the service. Gatsby did “extraordinarily well in the war. He was a captain before he went to the front, and following the Argonne battles he got his majority and the command of the divisional machine guns” (150). A war hero, as any man would call it, he was truly someone whom any soldier would seek to for guidance and for help if they needed it. Gatsby, however, did not realize that with the ending of the war, his prestige would end as well.
Absolute Monarchy Absolute Monarchy is a system of government in which the ruling monarch has unlimited power. Louis was a great absolute monarch, and there are many reasons to prove it. For one, his childhood really helped him. The Fronde was a series of terrifying riots. This scared Louis XIV a lot, but it also benefited him.
While volunteering to serve for his country he fought with skill and courage in many campaigns during the American Revolution, not many people know that the description above is for the man Benedict Arnold, who is best known for betraying his country. This book really showed him growing up, going off to war, and what influenced him to make one of the most historic decisions of American history. When Arnold was young his father didn’t manage the family’s money well, and they were financially ruined when Arnold was thirteen. This was a foreshadowing of things to come in Arnold’s future. As a young man Arnold volunteered for the French & Indian War.
But soon enough, he became a determined and knowledgeable politician, who was not devoid of substance. As a president, JFK showed both style and substance through his actions and words. Before JFK’s time as president, he was a congressman and a senator. He won his seat in the House of Representatives by rigging the vote and cheating (‘John F. Kennedy,’ 2011). He used his families charm and connections to win over the public and his fathers enormous wealth to advertise himself.
However, Roosevelt was considered by many to have been an effective campaigner and was picked out as a future president. In the summer of 1921, Roosevelt became seriously ill. He was eventually diagnosed as suffering from poliomyelitis. He was almost totally paralyzed and he was never again to recover full use of his legs. Frances Perkins believed that this illness changed Roosevelt's personality and in doing so, made him into a better man.
Then Charles Foster Kane died alone. He was destroyed by a lust for power by too much ambition. Kane once told Thatcher years before money led to his downfall: “If I hadn’t been rich, I might have been a really great man.” Although, he was flawed and self-serving, Kane was a very strong man who had power to control American citizens’ thoughts and very wealthy to live in a giant house that looks like a castle with numerous servants, ridiculously expensive statues, and a private zoo. Even when he was a child, Kane was a strong
Although O’Brien is unclear about whether or not he actually threw a grenade and killed a man outside My Khe, his memory of the man’s corpse is strong and recurring, symbolizing humanity’s guilt over war’s horrible acts. Norman was right on the side of him when he died, after about a couple of years passed by after the war he was in Kiowa home town he started crying because he didn’t do anything to try to save him. In Fallen Angels Richie see’s how almost his whole team died he and Peewee were the only ones that survived, which emphasizes the theme of youth and innocence. In calling the novel Fallen Angels, the author implies that the soldiers’ youth and innocence are more important than any of their other aspects, such as their religion, ethnicity, class, or race. They wanted them to know what war is really like and wants to help them understand what is experienced.
We've all noticed that portraits of Henry VII capture him as a very serious, timid and weak old creepy man who didn't really look as though he could take on the role of king in those times. However, after learning about how he claimed the throne, consolidated power and left a safe throne for his son my opinion seems to have changed. Over centuries Henry VII has been associated with the words 'cold, materialistic, miserly and rapacious', he may have spent money ruthlessly, but for someone who united the warring houses of York and Lancaster I find these words quite harsh. Whilst his marriage to Elizabeth of York could have be seen as an act of selfishness, it clearly showed wisdom and more importantly the fact that Henry envisaged peace. This was the perfect time and platform to use propaganda and create a godlike image for himself as it provided security for the country and reassured the people.
He is a convicted felon. He has no chance of getting in the Hall of Fame the first year, and likely won't for many years to come. Some will vote for him using the logic that he was already a Hall of Famer before he started using performance-enhancing drugs. He already had three MVPs, 400 homers, 400 steals and seven Gold Gloves. But that logic is challenged by some people, such as Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy, who contends that in golf if you shoot 31 on the front nine and you cheat on the back nine, you are disqualified for the round."
