Does it Really Pay to Be Pretty? ----By Ashley Have you ever seen the soap opera called “JI GONG” ? Are you still impressed by the hero who is in rags with a shabby fan? Homely or even a little ugly as he was, he successfully engraved his kindness and humor on our mind and consequently won a great popularity among us. We may take it for granted that a pretty appearance is a vital necessity in the entertainment circle. However, there are enormous exceptions which have broken up that illusion. An average singer can be a shining star at the stage with her beautiful voice and gracious manners; through wonderful performance and astounding skills, an actor, not advantageous in appearance at all, can also bring her to eminence. To give those more thought, it undoubtedlly dawns on us that profession rather than appearance contributes to fame. It’s commonly held that attractive people are more likely to be confident, but it seems too superficial to an extent. If we consider confidence from the angle of its causes, we realize that many factors can easily fill us with it. Making a contribution to the society or achieving a goal we set for ourselves makes us feel confident. Even if we do not make any progress or accomplish something, we remain confident due to a positive attitude towards life. Therefore, we could possibly say that attractiveness has a negligible influence on confidence. Furthermore, is it convincing that good-looking earns more money? Let’s take a salesperson as an example. Suppose, she is not charming but does extraordinarily well in sales. That’s because she is eloquent and proficient at showing her customers the practical and favorable values of the products.
