The United States of America is a nation that thrives on diversity and acknowledges the necessity to offer opportunity in order to sustain equality. This country was built from the hard work of immigrants from all over the world to build what is America today. Many people arrive to the United States from their homeland countries both legally and illegally and it has never been such a concern until now. Immigration legal and illegal has pulled in plenty of eyebrow raises, media reports, and arguments on wither it places a positive or negative stain on the United States. Some believe that America benefits from immigration, while others blame immigration for all economic and employment crisis.
They think that the United States will be a good place to escape these elements and for a chance to start over. Lazarus uses the Statue to portray encouragement for the poor and neglected immigrants to come to the “New World” which is America. The American promise for the neglected immigrants can be shown in the material wealth that is provided for them. The movement is not only in the people that are immigrating but for different economic reasons as well. They discover an opportunity to succeed as well as opportunities for material well-being .As Lazarus explain that “here at our sea-washed, sunset gate shall stand”(3).They view the New World as place to stay and get what ever they need, because they find hope in United States.
Crystal Batayeh Jarenski Comm. 306 16 October 2013 Coming to America: The Real Story Living in America is a dream to many, and sometimes it is made into a reality. Immigrants on the daily enter our country in hopes of a better life and the independence and freedom our country holds. Our country has often been called the melting pot (more recently the salad bowl) because of all the culture we previously and currently still embody. People across the world come here in hopes of the “American Dream” and for some, it does happen, but at what cost?
Immigration is a huge issue in America. America is seen as the country of opportunity, which is true. In our eyes America broadens the mind of people and for some its a gateway for achievement and from poverty to help people better themselves. In Machiavelli's eyes based on his views on government, immigration coincide with his point made about generosity. Being generous “you must seize every opportunity to make a big display of your giving,” which would only attract immigrants and in most cases illegal immigrants at that.
When an immigrant becomes a citizen, it changes the way he or she feels toward the United States. Rodriguez writes, “It is not surprising that studies show that naturalized citizens tend to have a positive outlook on the United States.” Being a citizen provides many privileges and two of them are, being able to run for public office and having the right to vote during an election. In a public office position an immigrant can help not only with immigrant’s issue but also possible with country’s issues. Voting is very important for immigrants because it help the cause of future immigrants, forcing politicians to hear the voice of immigrants. This privilege is an important right that resonates with the pride one can feel as an American.
The United States became such a reference place of where to go, that it was soon referred to as the “melting pot.” Immigration can affect politics, economies, and social encounters. It is also very important to keep immigration in mind because it can bring joy and help nations; however, having too many immigrants can have devastating effects. Immigration is good for the world and it should be allowed everywhere. One of the best things immigration brings to the table is the amount of cultural diversity that comes along with it. Without immigration it would be harder to get to know other cultures because the only other way would be through traveling; however, not everyone can afford to travel around the world.
For this reason, one advantage of immigration for the United States is the increase in diversity of cultures all over the country. The United States is commonly seen as an immigrant nation, a common ground where everyone is welcome to work hard, improve living conditions, and chase what we call the American dream. It's true that immigration has always been an important part of American life, but in reality the U.S. has become strict about who can legally enter its borders. Of course, for every lawful immigrant in the United States, there are many more who try to enter illegally. Illegal immigration occurs when foreign individuals break U.S. immigration laws by illegally entering or residing in the country.
Immigration Changes and Similarities: For Better, Worse, or No Effect? The United States of America is known as “the land of the free”. With the many opportunities and ways to have a better life, America is the place to be. All over the world, people strive, dream, and wish that one day, they will be living here. When people do come to America, they see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Krikorian presents a good argument and has done his homework. The author seems to respect patriotism and feels we have a greater obligation to our citizens than foreigners. Krikorian speaks of a country we once were when our grandparents came to America but not that same country now. He argues our immigration laws need to be shaped to improve the United States along with the government enforcing more stringent immigration laws. This would shrink the illegal population and life for American workers would improve.
Immigration in the United States of America Immigration is an extremely beneficial aspect of the United States. It is, to some, a gateway to a new beginning in life. What most people fail to realize is that immigration is the foundation of this country. A number of foreigners come to the United States each year to not only strengthen their skills but to also create a better lifestyle for their families. Some Americans do not understand the true reason why they tend to choose our country to start over in.
