Basic Facts about Angels Angels are created, spiritual beings with moral judgment and high intelligence, but without physical bodies. Angels have not always existed; they are part of the universe that God created (Neh. 9:6; Ps.148:2-5; Col 1:16). They also exercise moral judgment is seen in the fact that some of them sinned and fell from their positions (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6). Their high intelligence is seen through the Bible as they speak to people (Matt 28:5; Acts 12:6-11). Angels also have other names as we have seen throughout the Scripture, such as “sons of God” (Job 1:6), “holy ones” (Ps. 89:5-7), “spirits” (Heb. 1:14), “watchers” (Dan. 4:13) and so on. We could also understand as it is mentioned in the Bible that there are other kinds of heavenly beings created by God which count to be angels. The “Cherubim” were given the task of guarding the entrance to the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:24). God Himself is said to be enthroned on the cherubim (Ps. 18:10; Ezek. 10:1-22). The “Seraphim” is another group of heavenly beings which are mentioned only in Isaiah 6:2-7, where they continually worship the Lord and call to each other. The bible also mentioned angels as “the living creatures” around God’s throne (Ezek. 1:5-14; Rev. 4:6-8) (Grudem, pp397-398). Some other facts about angels are also need to be addressed. Angels are spirit beings (Gen. 18:3; Heb. 1:14; Mark 12:25; Luke 20:26). Angels are also created beings (Ps. 148:2-5; Job 38:6-7; Col. 1:16). Angels were created simultaneously and innumerable in number (Matt. 22:30; Heb. 12:22; Rev.5:11 ). Angels are a higher order than man (Heb 2:7; Luke 20:36; 2 Sam. 14:20; Matt. 28:2; Acts 5:19; 2 Peter 2:11; Dan. 10:13). But at the consummation of the age, redeemed man will be exalted above angels (2 Cor. 6:3). There are also different classifications of angels. Some are governmental rulers (Eph 6:12).
