Today’s media, be it in print, on the television, internet, or talk radio, plays a major role in the American political system. The media is owned by several companies and is out to make a profit. Some of these large companies are CNN, FOX, NBC, various talk radio programs, and popular items in print from Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc. These media outlets are all influenced by many sources, as are our top political figures. It seems the media is growing more powerful with time which is, in my opinion, both good and bad.
David Von Drehle, author of Triangle The Fire That Changed America, has written a book that has a very broad appeal. It will appeal to the common reader as well as those in academia. The book can be viewed as an important contributor to women’s history as well as labor history and even political history. He tries to prove his thesis that the fire did in fact change America by using newspaper and magazine articles written about the different people portrayed in the book. He was also able to utilize records from the trial of the factory owners Isaac Harris and Max Blanck.
The case was in a period of police transition and was a real test for them. In my opinion the investigation was a success due to a lot of successful methods. For example the use of forensics showcases the improvements made and just how far they had come. This was effective in many ways as it led to the identification to Cora’s body however there was still a bit of estimations which shows room for improvement in accuracy. I personally think all of the use of technology was effective because they had so many resources and made some real breakthroughs in investigative technology.
