How effective a king was Henry 7th? Henry 7th is very well know as the conqueror of Richard 3rd and father of Henry 8th, but how effective a king was he? He had to secure the Tudor dynasty, secure the nobility, keep financially stable and strengthen his foreign position without appearing weak. He dealt with these problems on the whole, extremely well, suggesting that he was an effective king, but he made some mistakes to. Henry 7th was ruthless in securing the Tudor dynasty.
This shows Henry as being more important as he was at a higher position from the start. However their relationship may make them seem more equal then any more important then the other, as John Guy says “Between 1515 and 1525 it can be argued that Henry treated him more as a partner than a servant.” This perhaps gives a clear image of their relationship but not their importance in foreign policy. However this does show that perhaps their overall importance to the country generally was equal. It can also be argued that Henry gave Wolsey the authority and without Henry there would be not much power for Wolsey at all. Henry can be said to have given power in the case of the 'amicable grant' to Wolsey however historian J.J.Scarisbrick said “Henry never knew of the demand” this argues
Clearly his success had to be dependant on a number of weighty advantages, his growing up in Exile for example. Whilst condemned as a disadvantage, historians today argue that this difficult upbringing imbued within Edward the exact qualities a King is required to have. Frank Barlowe suggests that these include “tenacity and resilience, making him – Edward – accustomed to sudden shifts in fortune as well as developing opportunism, flexibility, patience and an understanding of human nature”. If we assume Barlowe’s interpretation of Edward’s exile is correct then it is reasonable to suggest that Edward already had the qualities of an excellent King within him as a result of his harsh treatment. Another, perhaps less obvious advantage to Edward’s succession is Earl Godwin’s
Why William duke of Normandy won the battle of Hastings The battle of Hastings led to a drastic and irreversible change in medieval England. The result of the battle was that William duke of Normandy with the help of his Norman supporters seized control of England’s throne and changed the culture and the way the country was ruled forever. William’s opponent of the battle was Harold Godwinson, the largest land owner in the country and a man who had been king of England for less than a full year. This essay will examine the reasons why and how William won the throne. Other than Harold Godwinson, two other men were claiming the English throne; their names were William, Duke of Normandy and Harald Hardrada, a Viking from the north.
Firstly, there are many arguments defending the fact that Edward VI had significant influence in government such as the previous power of child monarchs before him. Henry III, who was the same age as Edward when he came to the throne turned out to be an extremely powerful King, whose reign was defined by the ending of the Civil War and a well-ruled country and government. On the other hand, his adult reign was less of a positive experience, as it resulted in opposition to Henry because of his choice to have Frenchmen at his court. Edward V however was murdered at the age of 12, which was not promising for the child King’s to come. If we were to believe that the positive experiences of child monarchs were shared by each King there had been, it would be easy to say that Edward VI was a powerful King with significant influence in government.
Louis the 14th was a very powerful king that had many positive influences over the country of France. As absolute monarch, Louis the 14th had an incredible strategy for ruling and improving his county, making him noteworthy of the title as the greatest king in the history of his country. Louis was able to increase France’s economy by producing its own goods to trade with other countries, as opposed to purchasing goods from other places, which proves to be more costly. In addition to that, he assembled the most advanced army in Europe at that time. Interestingly, Louis became a patron of the arts, and greatly shaped France’s culture by emphasizing the importance of art and theater, climaxing with the Palace at Versailles.
When this failed to produce support Alexander II began in 1859 to use reforming ministers, such as Miliukin and Samarin to plan changes. The emancipation act, which was signed in 1861, can be seen as a huge personal achievement; however the Tsar Liberator did not wish to introduce real economic freedom to the peasants, nor for them to receive equality before the law. The nobles remained the privileged class and indeed their share of wealth increased. Emancipation can therefore be seen a traditional rather than a drastic change to Russian society. In 1864 the creation of the first elected governments, Zemstvos happened.

As a hero, the Anglo-Saxons made Beowulf have certain hero characteristics. Today we still have heroes that have the same characteristics because authors took the image of Beowulf and created other super-natural heroes. Beowulf was a warrior and a king that showed great courage and he was admired by his own people and King Hrothgar. Epic heroes are social icons and they are imposing in stature, physically and socially. Their style is grand, yet simple, and they have super-human strength and they also face super-natural forces.
