If that question is asked at a table usually people would say “No”. A long time ago that answer would have no opposition, but now with the recent murders of students on school grounds that answer is not so easy to answer. In 2006 after the recent shootings in Colorado, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania a representative by the name of Frank Lease, a Green Bay legislator. Planned to introduce a legislation that would allow faculty to carry concealed weapons on school grounds as a deterrent against shootings. Allowing faculty to carry firearms can have an effect on mass shootings at schools.
Instead, Romney used his time to rebuke Obama and did not express his position as much. “Why am I lowering taxes on the middle-class? Because under the last four years, they've been buried,” Romney said. Even though, Romney tried to overcome Obama; Obama fought back better than the last presidential debate. When Romney attacked Obama for hindering the use of coal, the President recalled an appearance of Romney as governor of Massachusetts, where he vowed to shut down a coal-fired power plant.
Uniforms make it more difficult for gangs to form and make the school a safer place. Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arrise out of arguments over fashionable clothes. Children invariably tease those who do not have trendy clothes. The Supreme Court ruled in the 1943 case West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette that school officials violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments when they punished students and their parents for the students’ refusal to salute to the American flag. During the 1940s, the United States Supreme Court discussed two cases in which the majority disputed with the rights of individuals. In the first case, Minersville School District v. Gobitis, the court ruled that all students had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance while saluting the flag in the classroom. However, the Supreme Court faced the same issue three years later in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette and was against a state school order that public school students must participate in a patriotic ceremony. The issues of the Barnette case stemmed from the decision of the Minersville School District v. Gobitis case.
Veterans came and set up camp in DC and planned to stay until they were given money to feed their families. The national guard was brought in to displace the demonstrators, our WWI veterans. This was a pivotal point in our nation. Many scholars believe that there would have been a revolution in this country if FDR had not come into the picture and promise to change the circumstances for the people by giving them food, and creating jobs. FDR was the first “modern president”.
In 1965, along with Gerard Pelletier Pierre was invited by Jean Merchand, to run for a seat in the Member of Parliament as Liberal candidates. Pierre accepted the invitation, saying in his acceptance speech, “I thought it was perhaps time for me to try stop criticizing others and start try to do something. And if I succeed well or even if I don't, I'll go further to criticize me and I hope I will get the heck out of this if I can't do a good job (2).” That same year in November 8th, the three Liberal candidates, known as the “Three Wise Men” were elected as Members of Parliament. As a very new Member of Parliament, Prime Minister Lester Pearson appointed Trudeau as his parliamentary secretary. After only sixteen months as a Member of Parliament, the Prime Minister promoted Trudeau to be one of his senior cabinet ministers by making him the Minister of Justice.
The little boy throws the hand the gun into a nearby waste basket and runs into a nearby rest room.” In the article they make it seem like the child must had knew he did something wrong. Just like now why is there always teen shooting in high schools? Students believe that high schools shooting are most cause of being pick on or being mistreated.
Do you believe school uniforms make a difference in the lives of students attending schools? In the opinion of most high school students today, uniforms won’t make a difference. Around the world students are required to wear school uniforms to help their education. As of 2006 roughly one in five schools in the United States had some type of dress requirement. (“Update: School Uniforms.”) Schools in the United States are getting stricter when it comes to dress codes.
So the question is, should uniforms be worn in public schools? I don’t think so. Yes, there are several benefits, but I believe the cons outweigh the pros in this situation. It is said, and has been shown in several studies that uniforms in public schools reduce the amount of violence amongst the students. If all of the students on campus look the same, it is hard to distinguish among the many cliques and/or gangs; and anyone who doesn’t belong on campus would easily be identified.
Due to this, single-sex schools have been established to combat these issues. Are we doing a disservice to boys and girls by keeping them segregated? Is this ethical? How will boys and girls effectively co-exist once they are no longer in school? The following paper will argue against single-sex schools and display various reasons as to how they are counter-productive to student needs.
