Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night Questions: 1a) the speaker in the poem, “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night” is the poet, Dylan Thomas. He is speaking to his father who is dying due to old age. b) The speaker’s message is that he is pleading with his father to resist death and try to stay alive. 2) The four types of men that resist death include “Wise Men”, “Good Men”, “Wild Men” and “Grave Men”. The Wise Men do not believe that they have achieved all of their goals in life, they resist death because they have yet to achieve all of their desired goals and aspirations in life. The Wild Men resist death because they have celebrated their life but realize that death is inevitable. They realized that they were actually mourning their death. The Good Men resist death because they wish they could have utilized their life in a particular way, to do better things and achieved goals that they wished they could have attained. The Grave Men resist death because they are smart people who realize that death is inevitable but want to end their life with a bang, hence the quote “Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay”. They are extremely old and weak but realize that they want to do more productive things in their life. 3) “Frail deeds may have danced in a Green Bay” is an oxymoron because it is showing that good men think that they did good things in life but in reality, their life was boring and gloomy. “Blinding Sight” is an oxymoron because it is showing that although the grave men are weak and blind, they have insight and understanding that death is inevitable. “Blind eyes could blaze like meteors […]” is an oxymoron because it shows that the weak and aged men still have the desire and potential to make an impact in life. “Curse, bless’’ is an example of an oxymoron because the poet is distressed of his father’s condition.
