1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued? Diversity to me is the differences that makes us unique, like our race, religion, gender, hair color, eye color, age and education. There are so many things that make us different. I this is what make it so valued. We appreciate the differences in each other and value the different strengths that we all bring to the table.

2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society?
Ethnocentrism is judging another culture by the values and standards of your own culture. This is detrimental to society because this is racism and hate crimes come into play. They judge people because of something they really do not know about and/or scared of so they do what it takes to avoid or to get rid of that culture.

3. Define emigration and immigration.
Emigration is prompted by a variety of factors, as people leave their country in order to flee a war, find education or job opportunities, or join their family in another land. Immigration is more or less tightly controlled by host countries, who may be concerned about the effects of a large population influx or wish to achieve some kind of mix of incoming residents, or alternatively, provide a haven for a people or group suffering some kind of intense need.

4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?
Some of the ways groups of people are identified is their age, gender, race, and religion. Most groups are identified by their age and race. Once you reach a certain age all of a sudden you are in the senior citizen category or when you feel out paper work for anything they always ask you your race.
