Everybody has different values. So with that in mind, conflict will occur when individuals or nations have a lack of acceptance and understanding of these different values. Conflicts with differing interests occur when individuals or nations combat for their personal or nation goals as a whole, often ignoring the organizational goals and well-being, or other nation’s goals and well-being. Scarce resources can cause a lot of conflict. Especially between two countries.
There are so many ways in which people can differ from each other, including, for example: Appearance Gender Race Culture Ability Talent Beliefs. By recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them, and moving beyond simple tolerance, we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued. Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age. It is recognised that some people and groups, because of a range of differences, find it more difficult to have their voice heard in mainstream society - their views, needs and perspectives may not be routinely taken into account, for example in planning services or undertaking research. Inclusion is about positively striving to meet the needs of different people and taking deliberate action to create environments where everyone feels respected and able to achieve their full potential.

By discriminate against someone because of their gender, race, and ethnicity, their nationality, religion and age, disability, sexuality, race, culture and personal features. This can affect others physically in which they could show signs of poor health; they could also initiate physical harm to themselves etc. Emotionally could start believing in what they are being told and be emotionally harmed.
There is no doubt counsellors have to be aware of the complications when it comes to culture (Pederson & Ivey 1993). Within a culture people develop patterns of behaviour that they have learnt. Cultural identity differences can be perceived between themselves and other groups and can also be based on personal preferences i.e. Language, religion, lifestyle, Birthplace or even life experiences. There is a danger that if counsellors minimise cultural differences they are likely to impose the larger multicultural groups similarities upon the smaller multicultural groups and uphold one group as being more important than the other.

Diversity recognises and understands that even though people have things in common with each other, people are also very different and unique individuals in many ways. Diversity is all about recognising, respecting and valuing those differences. Diversity consists of visible and non-visible factors, personal characteristics such as background, culture and personality. Characteristics which are protected under the discrimination legislation such as disability, race, religion, belief, gender, sexual orientation and age.
People tend to assume the existence of race as an inferior fact yet it exists as a major problem within the community. As evident from the history of many nations, the ethics of race continues to increase coldly as generation passes. Examples of Ethnocentrism Ethnocentrism is a major reason for divisions amongst members of different ethnicities, races, and religious groups in society. Ethnocentrism is the belief of superiority is one's personal ethnic group, but it can also develop from racial or religious differences. Ethnocentric individuals believe that they are better than other individuals for reasons based solely on their heritage. Clearly, this practice is related to problems of both racism and prejudice. While many people may recognize the problems, they may not realize that ethnocentrism occurs everywhere and everyday at both the local and political levels.
