Diversity in the workplace is a topic that many organizations invest vast amounts of time and training in an effort to ensure their presence. Although todays modern workforce is more diverse than it has ever been and continues to grow daily I firmly believe that they are other factors that influence their successes. While it has been demonstrated that organizations have made great strides in the direction of equality, it is still far from attaining total equality. While organizations maneuver through the process, and the main objectives of diversity in the workplace, I believe throughout my own experiences that acceptance, education, training, and complete transparency are just a few of the portals that would reflect what true diversity in the workplace involves. In my opinion the basic concept of diversity in the workplace encompasses acceptance and respect that includes an understanding that each individual is unique and recognition of individual differences. These differences can be the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual. Diversity as it appears for the purpose of the course refers to a variety of differences between the humanistic socialization and character traits of people within a business organization that specifically measures the success of the business. These differences are not limited to race, gender, ethnicities, age, personalities, education, religion but encompass a vast array of cultures, believes, character traits, and their perceptions.
