Dustin Lindsay Professor Kate O’Brien GEP 150 December 11, 2008 Diversity in SUNY Brockport Beyond all doubt, diversity on college campuses has truly undergone many beautiful changes. Diversity used to be something that was not embraced. In our generation it is not only embraced but it is also encouraged. One college that is truly diverse beyond measure is SUNY Brockport. There are many different groups of people that exist at Brockport. One group that is quite large in number is the sports fans and the jocks. This group of people has many houses to party at including: The hockey house, the rugby house and many others. This group seems to be the most heavily populated at Brockport. Speaking ethnically there are many groups here as well. Of course there are Caucasians here, Brockport is pre-dominantly white. Although there are many that would think that there is a high level of racism on campus that is hardly the truth. Almost every person I have met here has been more than welcome to meet me. This is where the polar differences are visible between high school and college. The level of maturity here is much greater than that of high school. This group is once again pre-dominantly Hispanic/Latino. However, much like the Caribbean student association it is not closed to anyone. Anyone of any race is more than welcome to join. There are a lot more groups and many more types of people that exist here in Brockport. I believe that Brockport may be one of the most diverse places in the state. Another great thing about Brockport is that there is always room for improvement. The student government strongly encourages anyone who has an idea for a group to get out there and make it happen. Who knows? Perhaps I will be the next person to found a club. I think that Brockport is a great place to prepare any teenager for the ‘real world’. Brockport is a place where the desire to succeed is embraced and ignorance is cast asunder. It is a place where all different people of all different walks of life can join together in unity. It is a place where one can grow in many more ways than one. It is a place where anything can happen. But most importantly it is a place where someone can find
