FINAL PROJECT I live my life with the premise of never judging an individual based on their race, ethnicity, sexual preference, or religious affiliation. Information I have learned in the past nine weeks about diversity in the United States has helped me understand and relate to others in many different ways that I previously hadn’t considered. Discrimination and prejudice in this country and around the world are still very strong and come in many forms, some apparent and some hidden. It is what has shaped this country to the best in the world, but is also the same thing that will one day destroy it. The United States is in a constant state of change. United States Census predicts that the Mexican population will be the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States by the year 2050 and may possibly be the majority. With the ease of our border crossings and the acceptance of allowing illegal aliens to stay in this country, this mind set of allowing people to disrespect our laws will indeed support this growth. We are going down the road of socialism, and I personally feel it is partially due to our diversity in the country. This is going to be our country’s biggest challenge as me move further and our country becomes more diverse. What has America stood for? The land of the free, a place to come and make better for yourself; the idea of getting a job, working hard, and providing for your family; being able to get a good education and passing it on to the next generation; being able to do this without persecution. Early in this country growth the population was very diverse, but they all seemed to share some very common goals and principles. One fundamental principle was family. This principle is becoming lost as our nation becomes more acceptable of gay and lesbian lifestyles. We accept young girls getting pregnant and the fathers not being held accountable. In my opinion, knowledge is power. With such a diverse population, we can learn so much from one another. We are able to embrace and learn different cultures while holding on to our nation’s founding principles that made us what we are
