“According to U.S. Department of Transportation statistics, 3,331 people were killed and 387,000 more injured in crashes involving a distracted driver in 2011” (Herzog, 2011). This tells us that driving and texting is clearly killing and injuring people. Car accidents can cause physical and emotional distress. In the film family members were showing signs of emotional and physical distress by hitting the arm rest on the chair and when talking repeatedly about how they can’t say things that they want their child to do. It was difficult for some to tell the story of the accident because they were in so much pain and frustration.
Drunk driving is the leading cause of death for people from the age of six to thirty-three years old (Curran, 1). One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime (MADD, 1). Everyday thirty-six people in the United States die due to the crashes and approximately 700 more are injured in car crashes that involve alcohol-impaired drivers. This year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes; one every fifty minutes (MADD, 1). “Cracking down on those who take drugs or drink and then drive is a year round commitment for Warwickshire and West Mercia.”- West Mercia Police.

“Incidents of “road rage” were up 51% in the first half of the decade, according to a report from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety,” writes Andrew Ferguson in Road Rage (553). It’s sad that due to road rage many innocent commuters suffer the consequences. It has also happened to me while driving; because I’m driving to slow, the person behind me starts to blow the horn. And, it makes thing worse because then I will get mad and drive even slower. In Road Rage, Ferguson points out that in a recent survey that the Coalition for Consumer Health and Safety did, 64% of the people mentioned that they are driving less mannerly and more recklessly than they did about five years ago (553).
Wearing a seatbelt is necessary for everyone. Millions of people die every year. Many people die every month. Too many people lose their children, friends and loved ones every day. There are countless reasons for deaths: suicide, fights, diseases, suicides...
There are also many under age drivers on the road that makes driving on the road more dangerous for them and anyone driving that day. A lot of people also die because they drive while intoxicated I would have to say that’s one of the most cause of death each year. Talking on the phone is one of the most dangerous habits because you’re not always concentrated on the road. Talking on the phone while driving is prohibited because you can get into a car wreck or make some get into one or hit someone and can cause severe injury or death. It is very prohibited to talk on the phone in school areas because there is a lot of kids walking to school or getting off of their parents vehicles to walk into school and you can hit them and severely injure them or even cause death.
The average Joe is sitting in his Honda on Interstate 65 when his cell phone goes off. Of course, hearing the recognizable text message vibration or ringtone creates curiosity, so Joe thinks, “Maybe it is my friend telling me about a change of plans for tonight, or parents, or something is wrong?” Although traffic looks like it is going to be moving soon and knowing that it would only take a few seconds to respond, Joe does. Before he knows it, the Blazer in front of him stops too fast, causing the grill of Joe’s Honda to hit the back end of the Blazer. Texting behind the wheel is dangerous because it takes the driver’s eyes off the road and lowers the driver’s mental focus. Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting.
