Cosmopolitan is an international women’s magazine targeted primarily at an adult audience. Although Cosmopolitan first started in 1886 it wasn’t until the 1960’s that it became a woman’s magazine. This was changed due to a new editor Helen Brown who was an active feminist, believed in liberating women in all aspects of their lives. As of 2013 topics such as sex, health, relationships, fashion and beauty are discussed about. Cosmopolitan has 64 international editions and is distributed to more than 100 countries. As the demand grows Cosmos has taken its features online due to the change in women’s needs and wants. Women in today’s society are more successful and work orientated. They are no longer just staying at home and being housewives, they also work and take care home hence having very little time to sit down and pick up a magazine. The internet provides fast and easy access to everyday working women who are always on the run and because of increasing technology Cosmopolitan can be accessed on smartphones and other 3G devices. This suggests the Cosmos wish to encourage the modern women to be liberated in all aspects of their lives. The website has a very modern and chic look which implies that they are aiming toward the modern woman. The word “Cosmopolitan” has many synonyms such as wordy, sophisticated and metropolitan. These words are connoted by the colour hot pink of the title and the edgy bold font. A Cosmopolitan is also a cocktail containing vodka, cranberry juice, an orange flavoured liqueur and lime. It is known that in today society the modern woman generally like the fruity taste of this alcoholic drink. Moreover the colour of the drink is pink. As cosmopolitan wishes to liberate women in all aspects of their lives the values of sex, relationships, fashion, health/lifestyle, celebrity and bride are the headings of the tabs which show the main topic
