1. The repressed memory concept is also known as false memory syndrome. False memory syndrome is caused by memories of a traumatic experience most often they are associated with memories of childhood sexual abuse. Many of these types of memories are objectively false, but in which the person believes the memories are true. Because sexual abuse is such a disturbing incident, false accusations of sexual abuse have huge, if not shocking, consequences for families.
The crime that I have chosen to discuss; which has occurred in the past week in my area is one of extreme victimization with a distinct abstract and etiological theory; Child abuse. There is no, one common definition for child sexual abuse. However, one ideological system of abstract perception, with regards to a central characteristic, is that of a dominant position of the adult, which allows him/her to primarily force or coerce a child into a sexual activity. This act of brutality cannot be directly verified or measured; therefore classified as an abstract theory with the idea of etiology; understanding and explaining the behaviour of the individual; in this case the offender. Children and adolescents, regardless of their race, gender, culture or economic status appear to be at approximately equal risk for sexual victimization.
Some of these adverse outcomes may include sexual dysfunction, drug abuse, difficulty in relationships, and low self-esteem. Most of those who have been abused sexually do not realize the effect it has had on their lives. With more understanding and help, young boys can overcome this trauma and adult men can avoid being hindered by their past. Abused Boys: The Neglected Victims of Sexual Abuse There are many articles and websites that seek to find the definitions of sexual abuse, the trauma involved, and how to overcome it. In Hunter’s book, which I will be attaining most of my information, he explains the different areas being affected by this abuse which include physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
• Cigarette burns • Pressure sores/ulcers from wet bedding or clothing. Any change in behaviour could be a possible indicator of any type of abuse but it is only an indicator and it needs to be linked to other factors such as physical evidence for anyone complete the full picture and see abuse. Sexual abuse can include: • rape and sexual assault • masturbation • sexual harassment • indecent exposure • penetration or attempted penetration of any intimate area. • Involving vulnerable people in pornography • Making people participate in sexual activity who have not consented or do not have the capacity to consent. Sexual abuse happens to both adults and children.
This is a personal assumption based off of previous experiences that I have been through. My professional assumption is that sexual predators have issues that they need help treating and coping with. There are a set of common traits for child molesters. They have a history of abuse in their childhood, an inability to empathize, bad coping skills, inefficient self-management skills, previous sexual offenses that have been undetected, pro-offending attitudes and social,
The sociopath and psychopath are truly unique characters. Many forensic psychologists, psychiatrists and criminologists use the terms sociopathy and psychopathy interchangeably. Leading experts disagree on whether there are meaningful differences between the two conditions. These individuals normally don’t know that they are sociopathic/psychopathic, and this makes them even more intriguing. Psychopathy and sociopaths are anti-social personality disorders.
The Psychosocial Approach to Sexual Abuse: Profiling the Sexual Predator Abstract Oftentimes, the public wants to know who sex offenders are or who potential sex offenders might be; based on certain personality characteristics, demographics, or other variables, perhaps because of their understandable desire to be able to spot these individuals and take protective measures. In fact, for those who are operating under myths or misperceptions about sex offenders and victimization, they may even believe that all sex offenders fit a certain profile that makes them easily identified. For example, you might remember the myth that the typical child molester is a dirty old man who hangs out at a park or playground waiting to lure a child away with candy. Or that the typical rapist is a masked knife wielding man lurking in a dark alley or hiding behind a bush waiting to jump out and grab an unsuspecting woman who is passing by. And for a variety of reasons, even some criminal justice professionals may seek to identify such a profile for sex offenders.
“Date Rape” is a harsh and cruel reality in today’s world. Date rape is defined to be sexual intercourse by the victims. Date rape is when a male or female is forced into sexual intercourse or actions by an acquaintance in this case, with whom they do not know very well. Violators can use a variety of tools in order to lure a victim into engaging in sexual intercourse such as drugs, threats or even black mail. The idea of forcing sexual intercourse upon a person is a violation to one’s physical and mental entities, and can be very traumatic for the individual.
The psychodynamic theory maintains that abnormal behavior patterns are symptomatic of some underlying mental disorder or illness. In the psychodynamic hypothesis, the development of mental disorders involves sexual and/or aggressive fears that have been repressed because of intra-psychic conflict. Because these conflicts are too painful or terrifying to endure, they are kept from consciousness through various defense mechanisms. This happens because the ego displaces the true source of this suppressed danger by substituting an external threat that can easily be detected. According to Freud, the originally repressed fears may go back far into childhood.
