parkDisneyland Park is a theme park located in Anaheim, California, owned and operated by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts . Known as Disneyland when it opened on July 18, 1955, It is the only theme park to be designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. The idea for Disneyland began when Walt Disney was visiting Griffith Park in Los Angeles with his daughters. While watching them ride the merry-go-round, he came up with the idea of a place where adults and their children could go and have fun together. He first thought of building a tourist attraction across the road from his studios in Burbank to entertain fans who wished to visit; however, he soon realized that the site was too small. Walt bought a 160-acre site near Anaheim in 1953. Construction began on July 16, 1954 and cost $17 million to complete. The park was opened one year and one day later. Disneyland Park was opened to the public on July 18, 1955 with only 20 attractions. A special event was held on Sunday, July 17, 1955, which was only open to invited guests and the media. The Special Sunday events, including the dedication, were televised live. The event did not go smoothly. The park was overcrowded as the by-invitation-only affair was flooded with counterfeit tickets. Only 11,000 people were expected to show up, but 28,154 turned up Movie stars and other famous people scheduled to come every two hours showed up all at once. All major roads nearby were empty. The temperature was an unusually high 38 °C, and a plumbers' strike left many of the park's drinking fountains dry. Disney was given a choice of having working fountains or running toilets and he chose the toilets.
