Animal Testing Cruelty No one ever thinks when he or she buys makeup, cleaning products, deodorant or lotion, that it has potentially hurt an innocent animal. 100 million animals die every year due to a chemical drug. Animals should not be used for testing. I have owned plenty of animals in my life and I can’t imagine why anyone would intentionally hurt one. Even though scientists need subjects to test medicine and cosmetics, animal testing should be stopped because they don’t keep exact records, the animals do not receive any care and the animals endure horrible living conditions. Most of the animals that are tested on are not recorded.
As the statistics indicate animal testing is dangerous and harmful, but medical research must continue. Supporters of animal testing argue that if animal testing never existed or was eliminated, that many of the medications and medical procedures used today would not be available and the development of future medicine and treatments would be extremely limited. These supporters argue that humans have benefited from the developments that stem from animal testing for many years. Also, Researchers and Scientist claim that testing is justified because it assists in discovering ways to help people and animals for the future. Surgery on animals has assisted in developing organ transplant and open-heart surgery techniques.
They thus contain only half of the genetic material common to the animal's cells and have not yet undergone any development. 3. Removal of Egg's Nucleus As the genetic material that is present in the egg cells is not what scientists want the cloned animal to have, and as having multiple nuclei in the same cell can cause many problems for the cloning process, scientists must extract the egg cell's nucleus. They do this through a method similar to the method used to isolate the donor cell's nucleus, only they discard the egg's
Is it Ethical to Test on Animals? The animal testing issue is a subject that gets people wound up into a blitzkrieg of words. Each person has a say as to what is the correct method, if any, as to testing animals in psychological experiments. My mentality is better the animal then me. I prefer it that animals be tested over human beings in every situation.
Their Side C- Embryonic stem cell research is considered a waste of federal resources by many people. PE- “[T]here should be no government funding to stem cell research…Embryonic stem cells have ha[d] little to no success in curing any known disease or growing human tissues” (Schultz 1). E- This type of stem cell research has been hampered by lack of funding, and it has been unsuccessful due to its insufficient testing. B. My Side C- All types of stem cells being studied today have many medical benefits.
It has contributed in the treatment of medical issues also. In some cases, animal testing has greatly helped animals, for instance there have been programs that have aimed to re-establish populations of threatened or endangered species by making appropriate living conditions and improving the well-being of captive animals. Animal research also helps explain the central nervous system, and in understanding how the nervous system works we are able to understand behaviours that are problematic in mental illness, drug addiction and memory disorders. 90% of the animals used in psychology research are rodents i.e. rats, mice, birds and pigeons.
All scientific progress has both advantages and disadvantages. Selective breeding can be beneficial to the animals if, for example, scientists attempt to eliminate a certain disease by breeding the individual animals with the best resistance to it. More often, though, we breed for our benefit rather than theirs - e.g. cattle with more meat and higher milk production, chickens which lay more eggs, and so on. However, sometimes they are bred for appearance purposes only, this could be harmful.
The reason for their failure was that they didn't have adequate medication and drugs to stop the body from rejecting anything foreign. Dr. Dunning explained that a camel organ was once used, but the human body rejected it very quickly and the organ turned black and failed (Alison). He recognized that this also occurred with primate and pig hearts because they were not genetically similar to that of humans. As early as 1964, before effective medication and drugs were available, six patients received kidney transplants from chimpanzees. “One survived nine months before dying from infection.
Tests are administered in cruel and brutal ways just for the possibility of a cure. Millions of animals are put through laboratories as if they were an object year after year. Because animal experimentation is cruel, unethical, and an inhumane act, we should strive to find an alternative to animal experimentation and testing. Animals In today’s world are enduring much pain and suffering. We are all too busy in our day to day lives to realize the brutality that goes on towards animals behind closed doors.
It is impossible to know the exact number as in the United States of America where the majority of the experiments are happening it is not required by law to report how many birds, reptiles, cats or dogs are used. Animals that are unfortunate enough that they end up having a short life as 50% of the animals will die within 3 weeks of an experiment. Many labs end up shocking, burning, torturing or starving animals without pain relief, an example of this is baby mice enduring severed ligaments for up to 6 weeks without pain relief. One of the things with animal testing is that it is not tested on humans so the reaction to human could be different to an animal. In my eyes this method is unreliable and inefficient.
