Big businesses are releasing harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and oceans. As a result the ozone layers are thinning and creating unprecedented hotter climates in many regions that negatively affect the ecosystems that are not used to the increase in heat. So in Conclusion, David Suzuki’s theory that human civilization is in a war to save this planet is very justified and necessary especially at his day and age where the destruction of earth has become an all to real reality. If human beings have any chance of saving this world they must first work together not as people of different nations but as a world community in finding alternative environmentally safe energy sources to ensure the survival of the human race and wildlife for many more future
Discuss critically religious and secular ethical arguments about environmental issues (35) In his book, 'The End of Nature', Bill McKibben highlights the fact that we are destroying the natural environment at an increasing rate, for our own short-term gain. Since the day that man created agriculture, and industrialisation to follow, the imbalance between man and nature has been growing. This has been accompanied by a massive population increase, tripling in the twentieth century alone. Human pressure on nature has never been so great. Such pressure has resulted in 'environmental issues', ranging from global warming and eutrophication, to the depletion of natural resources and an increase in the number of landfill sites.
Shelley warns the audience that we, as the creators, must take care of our surroundings or the outcomes could be fatal. These warnings continue to resonate with 21st century audiences, and it seems that the warnings are almost more important today, in an age of environmental breakdown and the use of nature as a commodity. Shelley also examines the moral responsibility of the scientist, and how far humans can go in their quest to be the creators. This moral responsibility is also examined in Scott’s Blade Runner. In Frankenstein, the ideas of cloning and the ability of human science has only started to catch on with small numbers of scientists such as Frankenstein, whereas in Blade Runner the human ability to create and control has manifested itself on a global, corporate scale.
“The Historical Roots of Our Ecological Crisis” In “The Historical Roots of Our Ecological Crisis,” White argues that certain attitudes formed as a consequence of acceptance of Judeo-Christian religions have had an important impact on each individual’s behavior towards the environment they live in. Humans have dramatically changed the Earth, and White thinks that our attitudes towards Nature are largely responsible for it. White begins by stating that humans are not the only species that alter the environment in which they live. However, human alterations typically are on a far greater scale, and proceed at a far greater rate, than the alterations of any other species. He also claims that the rise of ecological problems on the scale now occurring is a cultural phenomenon.
Our irresponsibility could ultimately lead to the destruction of our world and civilization, as portrayed in “Oryx and Crake” by Margaret Atwood. Within the dystopian world of "Oryx and Crake", humans have learned to adapt well to the consequences of climate change. Technology has been developed to counter
TMA 01, QUESTION1. Some of the most serious environmental issues today are climate change, air issue, waste and land pollution, over population and water issue. 1. Climate Change, is undeniable a global environmental concern that is triggering a rise in the amount of major natural disasters like floods and hurricanes; which causes destruction in societies and the regions which they effect. Global warming will only cause an increase in these issues along with additional problems that could eventually end this civilization, if we don’t work hard on improving our efforts on managing all the different types of pollution and waste that contributes to this major concern.
Eaarth Chapters 1 & 2 We’ve changed the planet. Global warming is no longer philosophical or future threat but instead a current and very real threat. The changes made to our planet are more evident in the toughest parts of the planet, and climate change is wrecking the lives of thousands daily. We need to consider the world we’ve created and how to live in it. We need to figure out what part of our lives we must forego and what ideologies we must abandon so that we can protect our societies and our civilizations.
If ongoing pollution cannot be reduced, then the climate is just going to keep getting worse day by day. As a result, not only will a single nation be suffering, but also the entire planet will change due to global warming. Of course, if people can make efficient adaptation plans to control the ongoing global warming and climate change, in the future it can prevent the threat of global warming and many other climate change issues. After all, the consciousness that man could alter the climate of Earth has dawned slowly on their awareness. Work Cited Begley, Sharon.
Environmental health Unit 38 P1 Explain how human activity can damages the environment For years now we have been warned about human activity destroying our planet and environment. Some of the things that humans are affecting are Climate Change, Depletion of Ozone Layer, Pollution, Deforestation and Extinction of Species. Overcrowding, urbanisation and population growth Overcrowding can affect our planet more than some people think, Overcrowding means more people this means we use more natural resources this means the earth in the end isn’t going to have enough resources to support the growing population. Remember every person on the planet takes up space which could be used for farmland, and forests. People excrete wastes and litter that flow into water systems, and animal habitats, this is slowly polluting water and killing wildlife.
The longer the worlds nations wait to respond, the more costly the response will be (Herzog, 1999). It would appear that Canada is an ideal place live, yet in order to succeed and live in this fast past environment, a few unknowingly sacrifices have been made. Canada is one of the main contributors of emission and other deadly gases, which leads to global climate change and therefore should take a more aggressive approach in finding solutions. By not concentrating on finding ways to reduce emission gases, the ozone layer continues to deplete, and therefore causes the climate to change worldwide. Nevertheless it is also
