Electronic commerce as defined by Aaron French is the buying, selling, transferring or exchanging of products, services or information via computer networks, including the Internet. It has evolved over a long period of time to what it presents itself in recent times. Many constraints were faced in the previous wave thus the first wave which gave way to the second wave of electronic commerce. Over dominance of the US businesses in the first wave gave out to the second wave of e-commerce which comprised of global enterprises participating in e-commerce. With the start of the first wave, English was the primary language on most websites used as commerce. This became a barrier for other countries which were non English speaking and thus limiting the trading to only the US. With the second wave, its international scope has enhanced sellers to do business in many countries and in many languages. China for example has been a major benefactor of this boom. Consumers are able to trade on their sites without much difficulty. Another feature in the first wave which brought about a second wave characteristic was the internet technology that was used in communication. Dial-up was the primary and major mode of connectivity that was used in commerce especially with the business to commerce type of trading. The increase in broadband connection in homes became a key element in the second generation. Now, faster connectivity such as mobile and fixed broadband which is available to all users at reasonable costs is widely used. This in the long run increased the use of the internet for commerce.
