What is a caring society? Well, for me, a caring society is a society with not discrimination or judgment in any kind, whether it’s based on looks, gender or their skin color. Everyone has the right to be treated and judged equally as others. That is why our country promotes the motto “1 Malaysia”, so that everyone in the country will be treated as the same. Physical appearance is one of the most common discrimination faced. Sometimes our mind just can’t help it and automatically judge people for their looks. Take for example, A 15 year old girl holds hands with her 1 year old son. People call her a slut, but no one knows she was raped at 13. People call another guy fat. No one knows he has a serious disease causing him to be overweight. People call an old man ugly. No one knew he had a serious injury to his face while fighting for our country in the war. You don’t actually know the person, but based on their physical appearance, you discriminate and judge him or her by the way your eyes see them. Equality must be achieved in every way. Gender is another kind. Female faced this problem the most. This is because in the old century, women are meant to just stay home, cook, wash and take care of the kids. But this is the old fashioned way of thinking. Just because someone is a woman, doesn’t mean she can’t contribute to the family, society and country. This is why there is a Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development established in our country, to fight for women’s rights. So that they can have equal opportunity as men to get a promotion in job, or even be elected as the president. Multi-racial country such as Malaysia often faced racial discrimination. Racial discrimination, or most often known as racism, are used to describe discrimination on an ethnic or cultural basis, independent of whether these differences are described as racial.
