Disabled people experience difficulty in acquiring jobs and perpetuating their employment. There are many indicators to such causality such as an individual’s mental and physical health that can be observed in majority of employees. Despite the various schemes and policy measures dedicated to enable disabled people into employment however, this population still suffers high unemployment rates as well as a higher likelihood of being unemployed or earning lower than the average wage in comparison to people without disabilities (Roulstone & Warren, 2006). By exercising good practice in the employment of disabled persons, organizations can reap the benefits of this competitive advantage that attracts the custom of disabled people, their families and friends. This is only possible through the complementary combination of corporate reputation, ethical employment and environmental policies all of which can influence decisions on obtaining goods and services of an increased consumer base (Moss, 2010). In addition, the process of employment into jobs is of great importance for individuals to integrate themselves into society as well as participate within it. Aside from the financial benefit of earning an income, employment can provide opportunities to expand one’s social network that contributes to the sense of social identity, opportunities to live days in an efficient manner and through participation in meaningful activities providing a sense that one has a purpose in life (Evans & Repper, 2000). The combination of the mentioned benefits as well as many others contribute to a better overall quality of life accompanied with increased self-esteem (Becker et al, 1996).
