DIRECTING INTRODUCTION Directing means giving instructions, guiding, counseling, motivating and leading the staff in an organization in doing work to achieve organizational goals. Direction is a managerial function performs by the top level officers of management. Directing or leading is the third function of management. Working under this function helps the management control and supervise the actions of the staff. It also enables them to render assistance to the employees by guiding them in the right direction, to achieve the company's goals and also accomplish their personal or career goals, which can be powered by motivation, communication, department dynamics, and department leadership. THE CONCEPT OF DIRECTING Directing initiates action and it is from here actual work starts. Direction is said to be consisting of human factors. In simple words, it can be described as providing guidance to workers is doing work. In field of management, direction is said to be all those activities which are designed to encourage the subordinates to work effectively and efficiently. According to Haimann, “Direction consists of the process and techniques utilizing in issuing instruction and making certain that operations are carried out as originally planned.” According to Koontz and O’Donnell, “Direction is a complex function that includes all those activities which are designed to which encourage subordinates to work effectively and efficiently in both short and long run.” According to Ernest Dale, “Direction is telling people what to do and seeing that they do it to the best of their ability. According to Urwick and Brech, “Directing is the guidance, the inspiration, the leadership of those men and women that constitute the real core of the responsibilities of management.” According to Marshal E.
