The tone of this article is satire and the significance if this tone choice will be discovered. Throughout her piece, Downie uses many different evidences to support her arguments.

Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing. I learned from the other unit one authors, Joseph M. Williams and James E. Porter, that when an essay is read by someone who is looking for grammatical error or plagiarism instead of content, they will often find the error and ignore the content. Although I do still know the importance of grammar and originality, this class and the grading style has let me put those constructs in the back seat until the editing process, instead of making them something I had to constantly worry about. I don’t believe that good writing revolves around grammar, but rather how well your words can convey a message to the intended audiences.
Before you begin anything in writing it is extremely important to brainstorm and write down ideas before beginning a project. For a biography, you might want to pick someone with a lot of information so you have a lot to write about, but at the same time is it too much to write about and will you include all the information? Make a list of people you are fascinated enough to write a biography on and then do a quick research on them. This will give you more insight on who you should write about based on how much information you find on each of them individually. Gelernter and Thompson used techniques in their essays to try and persuade their audience to agree with them, yet both authors used different approaches to accomplish this.
