Corruption is giving bribes, engaging in nepotism, facilitation payments and corporate hospitality for private benefits for a person or organisation. In the 19th century corruption was seen as an illegal process in the eastern poor developing countries whereas is now considered as a global threat. For the economy, corporate corruption is a deterrent as it affects the normal operation of activities as one person get advantage over the other due to corruption. Corruption is an illegal process yet is done by managers, corporations, politicians and is spread throughout all the sections of the society in both developed and developing countries around the world affecting the economy of the countries and the world economy on the whole. El- Sharkawy & Jarvis & Petkoski(2006) state that according to the world bank research, approximately $1 trillion was paid in bribes by the multi-national corporations universally to government employees, to other corporations and to managers of other firms to gain advantage over their competitors or fasten the processing of legal documents. This essay will focus on the difficulties and problems faced by multi-national corporations surrounding the issues of corruption in international business like facilitation payments and corporate hospitality while dealing with their day to day business proceedings. The major dilemma faced by multi-national companies while they are carrying out their operations in international countries are the cultural differences which present persisting problem of what is right or wrong, that is the decision making becomes tough and extremely problematic for the companies and their managers.
