Digital Divide Digital divide is the gulf between the people who already have access to Internet and the latest technology, for example, computers, and the ones who do not possess the ability to do so. Digital divide is usually caused by several reasons, mostly depending of the state of being rich or poor. Of course, they are many other reasons that cause the digital divide. The most common area where we can find people with no Internet access is in the rural areas. According to the NationMaster, most of the countries consists of a small part of at least some ruralism, including England but there are also numerous countries where majority of it’s land are rural areas. In the continent Asia, Bhutan is covered with 91% of rural area, following by Burundi with 90% and Uganda with 88%. The map below shows the Internet penetration all over the world. The majority of non-Internet users are in Africa since most of them are LEDC. It is clearly shown that people of the North America (most countries are MEDCs) have access to Internet. But, we can also find people living in urban areas having no access to Internet access or any other technology. One of the major cause of the digital divide is having no access to Internet. Many places in Africa haven’t got the opportunity to know about technology because they are mostly LEDCs. Having all the money needed for more important things like education, medication, food and water supply, paying of debts, the government cannot afford to pull wires and cables throughout the country to supply people with Internet connection. In urban areas, people who have no access are mainly due to some financial problems that causes problems like too heavy electric bills and so on.
