In the chapter from “Jim Crow’s Children” the author describes the fear on the part of white people that “educated blacks were likely to aspire to more than plantation life” (Irons, 2002 p 3). Keeping them away from education allowed whites to sustain the lowered expectations that blacks were only fit for manual labor. Even today, by controlling and perpetuating society’s stereotypes that certain groups of people “don’t belong” it keeps many from even attempting to access education. Even though people of color are now “constitutionally” given access to education, there are still pervasive thought patters of lowered expectations that keep many from seeking

Many working class Black Americans struggle to obtain affordable housing. More than half of all African Americans rent and 53% of those spend more than 30% of their income for their rent. 30% is the recommended threshold that a family should pay for housing costs. Having to use so much of their income for housing makes it much more difficult for African Americans to make ends meet. Their gross amount of rent is 776.00 a month.
Over 60% of students had cheated in the past month, which is fairly recent, and a staggering 83% had cheated in the past quarter. This showed us that cheating is an on going problem that almost certainly happens daily in Perry Hall High. To sum up our survey we asked students to tell us how big of a problem they though cheating was in our school on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being the most serious. 41% responded a 3 with the rest of the figure split evenly between 1,2,4, and 5. We concluded from this that students don’t really care about the subject or are indifferent about it.
A quote from Franklin Roosevelt said, “If we do not learn from past mistakes, history is doomed to repeat itself” (History Importance, 2011). In this case, slavery was the mistake along with all other racial profiling. I believe that African Americans have much more integrity due to their inspiration and history, therefore they would be a substantial institution to the equal working force as whites. If blacks are not given equal working privileges, history will repeat itself and may result in another civil war. In my opinion, the African Americans deserve to be given a chance to shine in the general public.
Contract sellers would try everything to get them evicted and put the house back up on the market. When the year 1993 hit, it was believed that African Americans were more likely to hold a subprime loan than Caucasians. Black communities have definitely been obliterated by the industry for years now. Due to this, it is hard for African Americans to get a decent job and move up on the economical class
Gender role differences aren’t the only reason African American men are being surpassed by their female counterparts in earnings, but because of incarceration rates. With African American men having the highest rates of incarceration they are not only unable to compete with women as wage earners, they are also hindering themselves a great deal when it comes to sustaining healthy relationships (Hattery-Smith, p. 49). The intent of this paper is to examine how economy, gender role ideologies, and incarceration have influenced family formation; which will forever change the visage of the African American
During the war many African Americans migrated from the southern countryside's to the southern towns and cities for work. More than 1 million African Americans migrated to the north to work in factories; by 1945 50% of African Americans lived in towns and cities. This push towards industrial employment was increased in machinery in farming witch resulted in less demand for labourers to work on the fields. Agricultural work was the main source for income for African Americans. In factories African Americans earned more money than they did as farm labourers.

CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/25/bia.urban.prep/index.html The main argument the author wants to exhibit here is that although nowadays blacks have much poorer performance in the United States, there is still hope that they can make a difference if offered necessary opportunities. This news story makes me realize a question: what determines blacks’ bad academic performance, like D'Souza says in the end of racism?
The War Labor Bond outlawed unequal pay to whites and non-whites doing equal work. Before the war, the African American population had been mainly southern, rural, and agricultural; within a few years, a substantial percentage of African Americans were northern, urban, and industrial. While discrimination in the workplace was hardly eliminated, twice as many blacks held skilled jobs at the end of the war as at the beginning. The northward migration of African Americans accelerated the rising demands for racial equality. As nearly 750,000 blacks relocated to northern cities, many sensed the possibility of political power for the first time in their lives.
