Different Countries, Different Cultures Traveling around the world visiting different countries and continents would be considered pleasurable to many individuals. A vacation away from what is all too familiar could be regarded as memorable and fascinating, but if a person does not do the research about the cultures and traditions of the destination that person is traveling to, they might think they are being pleasant when saying something or doing something, when actually they could be being obscene or just plain rude to the people they are interacting with. Knowing the traditions and cultures of places a person may travel can assist that person, and the people they interact with, greatly in acknowledging each other for who they are without offending them or misreading their interpretations. If a person were to go to Japan they would find many differences in culture from the way a person talks and acts to many different signs of body language. For example, in America it is considered respectful to look into the eyes of the party a person is interacting with, when in Japan it is the opposite. In Japan it is viewed as an insult to stare into the eyes of the people one is speaking with. When traveling to a foreign country such as Japan, people have to take into account that their traditions and cultures could be different than their own. What could be considered courteous in one persons culture could be in fact the opposite and disrespectful in another persons perspective. When a person is in Japan they are not supposed to talk with their hands in their pockets, lean against doors or walls, stand with their legs crossed, or sit in a way that other people can see the soles of their shoes. They are supposed to sit on the edge of the couch or chair when conversing with a person, unless the person they are with and themselves are comfortable and familiar
