The main characters of the two stories were both traveling on seas. Jason’s uncle Pelias had supplanted the throne from Jason, which Penelope’s suitors menace to do. They faced many monsters during their quest and they both came upon Scylla, Charybdis, and the Sirens. They were both helped by goddesses and people they don’t know. Both Jason and Odyssey regained their throne at the end of the story. They both took a long period of time to complete their tasks.
Folktale Motifs in Spirited Away One of the motifs chosen to discuss are the character motifs. In Spirited Away there were elders which were Chihiro’s parents. They fell into a trap once they started eating the foods that were meant for the spirits, because of this they could not stop eating. As a result they got transformed into pigs, and were stationary inside of a pig pen while Chihiro went on an adventure to save them. The person that got the most out of the story was Chihiro the hero.
A big bad wolf saw the two little pigs while they danced and played and thought, “What juicy tender meals they will make!” He chased the two pigs but they ran and hid in their houses. So the big bad wolf went to the first house made out of straw, and within a minute of huffing and puffing he blew the house down. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig’s house that was made of sticks. The big bad wolf then came to that house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in hardly any time. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig’s house that was made of bricks.
This is how Homer “gained his fame.” Many other scholars also believe the idea that “Homer” could have meant any travelling scholar, as there were no written records back then. The two poems are talking about a period in Greek history during the Trojan War. The Iliad is a lengthy poem about the Trojan War, and its’ ending. The poem starts out with the Achaean army taking over the town of Chryse and continued to tell the story of a greedy leader in the Achaean army, Agamemnon, and how he makes enemies with one of his best fighters, Achillies. The story goes on to tell about how the gods toy around with the humans, and take sides over each other that other gods may not like.
This transformation from dictatorship to ‘Animalism’ was then a full circle transformation back to a dictatorship, but with a different leading party. Orwell even chose the pigs to play the leaders in his satire, because they represented the piggish characteristics shown by the leaders of the Russian Revolution: Stalin, Trotsky, and Lenin. Pigs, being omnivores eat anything and everything that is thrown to them, even their young if it gets in the way. As did Napoleon
In addition, the belief that the pigs have the power to repel the humans makes them as supreme authority figures and Napoleon is almost God-like to some, which makes his words become the animal’s laws without much argument. By Chapter 7, the animal’s “faith” in the pigs is so strong that they are able to accept the mass executions in the farmhouse and all of the false stories about Snowball being as bad as Mr. Jones. In this quote: “They did not know which one was more shocking – the treachery of the animals who had leagued themselves with Snowball, or the cruel retribution they had just witnessed.” It shows that the animals think leaguing with Snowball (who wasn’t just a assumed criminal all his life but used to be a popular idol and hero to the animals) was in the same level as seeing their brethren killed in one event by their leader. Another quote: “Ah, that is different!” said Boxer. “If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right.” Before this quote, Boxer was arguing passionately against Squealer about Snowball’s alignment until the latter mentions that their leader, comrade Napoleon, said that Snowball was with humans.
The wolf fails to blow down the house. He then attempts to trick the pig out of the house by asking to meet him at various places, but he is outwitted each time. Finally, the wolf resolves to come down the chimney, whereupon the pig catches the wolf in acauldron of boiling water, slams the lid on, then cooks and eats him. In another version the first and second little pigs run to their brother's house and after the wolf goes down the chimney he runs away and never goes back to eat the three little pigs, who all survive. The story uses the literary rule of three, expressed in this case as a "contrasting three", as the third pig's brick house turns out to be the only one which is adequate to withstand the wolf.
The pigs begin to use fear tactics and confusing language to convince the other animals to everyone is equal. Squealer manipulates language and persuades the animals Napoleon is always right. Manipulated words misleads a poorly educated, frightened, and idealistic population. With the pigs in control separate classes began to form making special advantages only for pigs. Napoleon seizes power and denies the non-pigs' right to vote.
Evil Nature of Human Beings In the Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the boys experiment with the evil nature of human beings and end up losing their humanity and sense of civilization. Each of them develops it differently, some grow stronger and realize their wrongs, and others let the evil over take them and transform themselves into beasts. Jack becomes very jealous of Ralph and his power; he wants to take it from him. Jack then creates his own tribe of boys and turns them all against Ralph, meanwhile craving the hunt for food and is power hungry. Ralph represents the goodness left on the island, while Jacks worst got the best of him.
It is summed up in a singe word Man.``(p.4).This quote proves that human beings in the animals eyes are the reason behind all their suffering and that they should rebel against them to get rid of them. Next, the second role the humans had was that they were used as treats. Napoleon who later became their leader could not keep relying on blaming the humans for everything. The animals realized that they were not all being treated fairly. The pig squealer would come quick to the defence by saying that, pigs needed to be privileged because if they weren’t happy and healthy the farm would not prosper.
