The abstract is typically a short summary of the contents of the document.] | Developmental psychology, also known as human development, is the scientific study of systematic psychological changes, emotional changes, and perception changes that occur in human beings over the course of their life span. At first developmental psychology was more focused on infants and children, but the field expanded and added, adolescence, adult development, aging, and the entire life span. developmental psychology examines change across a broad range of topics including motor skills and other physiological processes; cognitive development involving areas such as problem solving, moral understanding, and conceptual understanding; language acquisition; social, personality, and emotional development; and self-concept and identity formation. This paper explains the prenatal development and birth of a newborn. It explains how a zygote cell goes from being a small cell changing into a fetus and then a newborn. Before a baby becomes a newborn it first starts off from being a zygote cell. The zygote cell is the initial cell formed when two gamete cells are joined by means of sexual reproduction. Some of the most important transformations of a baby life span happen before birth. Scientist made this process easy to study by separating the process into three different stages. The three stages are called the germinal period, embryonic period, and the fetal period. The first period, the germinal period, takes place fourteen days after conception.
