Warning: No helmet can prevent all head or neck injuries a player might receive while participating in football. Do not use this helmet to butt, ram or spear an opposing player. Such use can result in severe head or neck injuries, paralysis or death to you and possible injury to your opponent. TO AVOID THESE RISKS, DO NOT ENGAGE IN THE SPORT OF FOOTBALL. That’s the warning that is legally required on all NFL, College, and High School Football Team’s helmets. Football is a dangerous sport, and by choosing to play it, you acknowledge that you are putting yourself at risk. The NFL just came out with a new policy banning “Devastating Hits.” “Devastating Hits” are what the NFL is all about. You see them in all of the NFL advertisements. The Quarterback Sacks. The fumble-inducing slams. The kind of hits you would see on a young boy’s wall. Not only will there be controversy on what to call a Devastating hit, Banning “Devastating Hits” will ruin the intensity of football. Firstly, what is a devastating hit? Some say it is a hit that makes you cringe. Some say it is a hit that results in an injury. Some say it is when a bigger player hits a smaller player. However, most say it is a hit on a defenseless player. So what makes a player defenseless? If one player is 6’6’’ 300 lbs. and the other is 5’10’’ 180lbs does that make the small player defenseless? Can a player become defenseless as he is about to get hit to induce a penalty? Players are taught the correct form for a tackle. They are taught how to reduce the chance of injury. However, Injuries still happen. Telling football players not to hit as hard is like telling an MMA fighter not to hit as hard. Picture this. You are in the Super bowl and the score is now tied. You are the last defender between the running back and the end zone. Your fame, your position on the depth chart, and even your SALARY relies on this
