When Joe Keller gets back home from the court case, Miller has created the idea of guilt here by telling Joe’s ordeal when he got home. ‘There was a court paper in my pocket to prove I wasn’t.’ This declarative is stating that just because he had the paper to say he wasn’t guilty meant he wasn’t. However, Joe knew he wasn’t so he had it in his pocket. ‘Guilty as hell,’ as Joe knew he was guilty and lying he had to feel the paper I his pocket to reassure himself. ‘Court paper’ means it is official and no one can disprove the law.
The story’s main protagonist, Trevor, called "T" by the other boys, is a prime example of this, having moved into the neighborhood after his family’s sudden loss in social status. "T" is presented as having already lost his innocence, which is why it is he who suggests destroying Mr. Thomas’ home. The gang’s former leader, Blackie, is shown in the process of losing his innocence, as he starts out the story proposing relatively petty and victimless shenanigans for his group to accomplish. By the end of the story, however, Blackie is fully supportive of the plan to destroy Mr. Thomas’ house. Destruction and Creation One of the story’s most famous lines -- “Destruction, after all, is a form of creation” -- also identifies one of the story’s main themes.
His theory had two basic elements, firstly it pointed out that criminal behaviour is learned by the interaction within intimate personal groups through communication this includes techniques for committing the crimes (Bernard et al., 2010 p.180). Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) contest this statement explaining the average delinquent act may be committed before the interactions with other delinquents as the crime may need no special skills (Smith & Brame 1994). The delinquent behaviour and the pleasure derived from the act may cause the attraction to and joining of a delinquent social group meaning this behaviour is not learned
From the short story "Spanish Roulette" by Ed Vega the poet Sixto vows revenge against a local gang member who raped his sister and battles with himself to make the right choice. Although revenge may be the momentary satisfaction in times of despair, no man extracts revenge for the sake of evil, without the intent of profiting from it, and will be punished for it, regardless of reason, in this life or the next. The theme of these stories is the ability to let go of ones hate, to allow themselves the chance to heal without making the dreaded mistake of taking revenge which will ultimately destroy themselves. The message is clear through all three texts that revenge achieves nothing but gambles everything worth losing for the momentary satisfaction of vengeance. Although the three texts go about different ways, reasons, and potential gain by exacting revenge it is very clear through each story that it is never the best answer.

Next we see Farquhar s courage by the response he does make. He asks, Suppose a man a civilian and student of hanging should elude the picket post and perhaps get the better of the sentinel what could he accomplish? (664). Amazingly, Farquhar is contemplating a solo raid on the enemy army. He imagines that he, by himself, might be able to burn the bridge that the enemy needs.
He thinks of building shelters to protect them and to start a fire for their rescue. He becomes friend with Piggy, the fat boy that receives taunts and teases from the other boy, and gets used to rely on Piggy's intellectual reasoning. Ralph is brave when the occasion presents it, but he really miss for the secure world of adults, especially when order starts to break down on the island. He dreams about a rescue and insists that the signal fire always has to burn so that they can be seen. Ralph considers that the main reason for the disorder on the island is Jack, the antagonist and representation of evil in the novel.
Oedipus as the new king of Thebes has to take on the responsibility of finding the murderer of the previous king and to seek revenge. He wants to do everything in his power to help his city and free everyone from the plague bestowed upon them. However, even though he wants to do what is best for the city, the audience may not think that he is acting rationally. Oedipus was under a lot of stress trying to solve the case of the kings’ murderer. Oedipus put his time in so the city would be plague free.
According to Sutherland, “Criminal behavior is learned according to the principles of operant conditioning.” These operant behaviors involve the processes of conditioning. In conditioning, criminals may begin stealing little things like gum or pens from a drug store and never get caught. Then they could move on to cd’s and movies. If they continue to not get caught, they may begin to think that stealing is easy, and move on to larger more expensive things such as jewelry or money. If they have been involved in stealing food without being caught, they have been positively reinforced that they have been able to have food to eat.
In these next paragraphs you will be persuaded that this message underlying in the Odyssey is a good message or lesson. Initially, Odysseus uses his brain cunningly, and he doesn’t have to work as hard to get his ending outcome. For example, at the end of the book on page 1158 he basically tells everybody that he is Odysseus, and he has everybody trapped in a room, and he has weapons to kill them. After that point Odysseus easily disposes with all of the suitors, making his work load diminutive. If Odysseus, disguised as the beggar, had outright marched into his home, and tried to kill everyone it would have been much harder seeing as everybody else would have been cautious of a strange man entering the house versus Odysseus working hard to make sure the suitors believed they had nothing to worry about before he massacred them.
