Descriptive Piece The nerves are raging, butterflies in our stomach flutter till no end, as the team walks out of the tunnel proudly wearing our black and white strips for the second half, fully aware of the mammoth task ahead of us in this crucial grand final between our bitter rivals, we all felt the adrenalin rushing through our body as the apprehension kicked in. Both teams are deadlocked at 2-2, entering the pitch and receiving a standing ovation from the crowd which are looking forward to an intense ending to this thrilling game. The weather up to now has been blustery but dry, however clouds have been gathering, darkening the pitch, hoods in the crowd have been pulled up in the anticipation of rain. As the whistle is blown to start the second half, the first drops of rain start to fall. As it rained relentlessly the pitch became slippery and dangerous. With 10 minutes remaining, during a quick break forward, with numbers favouring our attacking team, the correct pass would lead to a certain goal. As our centre midfielder broke forward his touch was too heavy causing an opportunity for the oppositions centre back to lay down a heavy slide tackle, however because of the pouring rain the pitch was slippery causing the slide tackle to be uncontrollable and in the end knocking our player off his feet. As he landed his foot got caught under the player’s bulky leg, the ankle twisted to a distorted angle causing excruciating pain, the tone of his yells indicated the severity of the injury. The paramedics rushed on with their equipment, it was obvious that the ankle was out of alignment, despite the pain it had to be manipulated into the correction position. A stretcher was also rushed on to the pitch. He got lifted onto the stretcher and was hurriedly carried from the pitch to a waiting ambulance.
